IPL 2019: When Andre Russell and Shah Rukh Khan were overwhelmed by Kolkata's love and support
The Knight Riders won their first game by six wickets.
One would fall short of words to describe the carnage from Andre Russell at the Eden Gardens on Sunday. In their first game of the season against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) managed to pull off a resounding victory that will give them a lot of confidence going ahead.
This win was indeed quite special for the team and the fans after the loss in Qualifier-2 of 2018. Team owner Shah Rukh Khan seemed to be elated after this victory. The Bollywood Badshah was present at the venue and watched the entire proceedings carefully.
He kept cheering his team from the stands and the win would have been really satisfying for him. Despite being under immense stress, KKR managed to chase down the target of 182 with two balls to spare. Andre Russell took just 19 balls to score 49 runs while Nitish Rana scored 68 off 47.
Andre Russell wanted to cry
After the triumph, Shah Rukh Khan congratulated the players and thanked the fans for their love and support. He also revealed an interesting anecdote in his tweet. The actor wrote that Russell was overwhelmed by the support that he got from the Kolkata crowd that he wanted to cry. But, he decided against it as he felt that big boys do not cry. Shah Rukh Khan tagged Nitish Rana, Robin Uthappa and Shubman Gill in his tweet stating that the whole team plays for Kolkata fans.
‘@Russell12A said to me that he was so overwhelmed with the welcome fans gave him, that he wanted to cry. Then decided big boys don’t cry in public. @NitishRana_27 @robbieuthappa & @RealShubmanGill & the whole team plays for You Kolkata. Thk u for the Love,” wrote Shah Rukh Khan in his tweet.
