The eighth match in the IPL 2019 between the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) proved to be an exciting contest with masterful batting displays on show from both the sides. The Royals rode on a brilliant century by wicket-keeper Sanju Samson, who was hardly troubled by the Hyderabad bowlers, but had a unique disruption during his knock – a pizza delivery person distracting his view while having a walkabout just above the sightscreen!

Pizza boy always delivers!

The confident hitting by the Royals batsman only seemed to be disrupted once, but not by the fielding side! Batting on 44 in the 12th over, Samson was forced to stop play as there was disruption just above the sightscreen. As the cameras panned to see the reason, it turned out to be a pizza delivery person trying to find the correct seat to deliver his order! Minor disruption over.

Samson resumed his swashbuckling innings and proved that the distraction had no effect on his game. The commentators had a field day regarding the incident, though. While calls were made to bring the pizza to the commentary box, Harsha Bhogle and Lisa Sthalekar good-naturedly ribbing Michael Clarke’s sweet tooth, saying “if it was chocolates, he (the pizza guy) would never have gotten that far!”

Here’s the video:

Samson becomes the first centurion of the season

Samson became the first centurion of IPL 2019, and only the fourth Indian player to have scored multiple IPL centuries. The diminutive wicketkeeper scored 102 off 55 deliveries, studded with ten boundaries and four maximums, and was supported by skipper Ajinkya Rahane’s stellar 70 as the Royals posted a massive 201/2 in their 20 overs.

The duo ensured that the Royals were unfazed by the early dismissal of in-form Jos Buttler, as they cruised to a huge score. However, the Sunrisers responded brilliantly to chase down the score in 19 overs with help from a blistering 37-ball-69 by David Warner, as well as cameos from Jonny Bairstow and Vijay Shankar.

Warner got going from the onset, and at one time it seemed that the score would be chased down much quicker than it eventually was. A late resurgence by the Royals bowlers proved to be too little too late as SRH secured victory with an over to spare. However, before that, it was the Samson show amidst the hilarious distraction.
