IPL 2019: Will Rohit Sharma rest during the tournament? He himself answers
He is a key member for India in the World Cup.
The timing of the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year has raised a lot of questions. The all-important World Cup is set to follow the tournament and the fitness of the players, especially the Indian, has become the topic of debate. While the selectors have carefully managed the workload of the few key players, there are still many who feel that they can sustain an injury during the IPL which might hurt India’s chances at the mega event in England.
However, Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians’ skipper, has also opened up on the issue now and has cleared that he will take rest if his body demands. Moreover, he also termed the IPL as the biggest league in the world and in a way, hinted that he will play most of the matches this season.
” We’ve been on the road for the past couple of years. You have to listen to your body. If it needs rest, I’ll take rest. We’re here for the biggest league in the world. So we know our priorities,” he said at the pre-season press conference.
Rohit continuously playing cricket
Rohit Sharma has been continuously playing at the international level now. Moreover, his return to the Test side also led to the limited-overs vice-captain being on the road for a long time. It is very important for Team India that Rohit stays fit and fresh going into the World Cup.
He didn’t have a great home series against Australia and will be looking at the IPL to find his lost form. At the same time, he will have to take care that he doesn’t sustain any injury. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, the spinners, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli will have to take care of their fitness over the next seven weeks when the IPL will be in progress.
Soon after the T20 tournament, the 15-man squad for the World Cup which will be announced before April 23 will take the flight to England where India will play their first game on June 5 against South Africa.
