The first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 saw Chennai Super Kings (CSK) rout rivals Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 7 wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. This all happened as RCB were demolished for 70 runs while batting first on a rank turner.
MS Dhoni was smart enough to play with three spinners on a dry pitch and it helped that he won the toss and chose to bowl first. The decision proved to be a good one when Harbhajan Singh spun a web around the RCB batting and picked 3/20 in powerplay overs. Imran Tahir then returned with the figures of 3/19 and with Jadeja picking 2/15, RCB had no chance to make a comeback in the game.
Singh is King
The 38-year-old veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh awed many by his guile and loop imparted on the ball on a slow pitch that saw only Parthiv Patel reaching double figures. Bhajji picked up the all-important wickets of Virat Kohli, Moeen Ali and AB de Villiers on Sunday as RCB suffered a massive collapse.
His Punjab and India teammate Yuvraj Singh, who will turn out for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2019, took to Twitter and wished his mate with a message which read, “Form is temporary class is forever! Singh is king @harbhajan_singh.”

“It is nice to be on the winning side and contributing, especially taking the wickets of Virat (Kohli), AB (de Villiers) and Moeen (Ali)…top-order batters. This is the kind of performance that is expected from me, being the senior bowler in the side,” Harbhajan Singh was quoted as saying while receiving the Man of the Match award.
Yuzvendra Chahal bowled a dream spell of four overs, giving away 6 runs and picking the wicket of Shane Watson while defending a meagre total. But the Royal Challengers Bangalore, who opted for two spinners, just didn’t have enough of them to make any difference on this pitch and the runs their bowlers were defending were paltry.
