IPL 2019: Yuvraj Singh smashes Yuzvendra Chahal for three consecutive sixes
Yuvraj attempted the fourth six but fell short by inches, thus departing after slamming 23 off 12 deliveries.
Yuvraj Singh, on Thursday, showed he can still destroy bowlers with his willow. After some indifferent outings with the bat in the last one year or so, the veteran batsman has hit the ground running. Playing for Mumbai Indians this season, the southpaw began the season with a fighting fifty against Delhi Capitals. However, it went in vain as Mumbai Indians lost their season-opener by 37 runs while chasing 214.
Yuvraj, nonetheless, showed his devastating form once again against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He came out to bat when Mumbai Indians lost their skipper Rohit Sharma to find themselves 2 down for 87. Yuvraj started slowly and was batting on just 5 off 8 balls when Yuzvendra Chahal came on to bowl the 14 over. This is when Yuvi decided to open his arms and made the world-class bowler look pedestrian.
The World Cup-winning star hit Chahal for three consecutive sixes to roll back the clocks, reminding everyone of the game against England in the 2007 World T20 when he had hit Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over.
The first six went over mid-wicket while the second was sent straight down the ground. Yuvraj then played a glorious lofted shot towards long on to hit the third consecutive six. However, before he could inflict further damage on Chahal and the Royal Challengers, Mohammed Siraj pulled off a good catch at long off to bring an end to the carnage. Yuvraj attempted the fourth six but fell short by inches, thus departing after slamming 23 off 12 deliveries.
Here is a clip showing Yuvraj Singh’s stunning assault on Chahal:
Mumbai Indians score big:
Bouncing back strongly from the defeat against Delhi, Mumbai Indians scored 187 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs. Rohit and Quinton de Kock laid the foundation with a 54-run opening wicket stand before the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Yuvraj played some handy knocks.
Hardik Pandya then provided the finishing touches by slamming 32 off just 14 to help Mumbai recover from a middle-order collapse and post a good total.
