IPL 2019: Yuvraj Singh trolls himself as he looks in good mood ahead of the season
MI signed Yuvraj who was with Kings XI in the previous edition.
Yuvraj Singh will have a point to prove when he comes out to bat in the Indian Premier League (IPL). A couple of months ago, one of India’s greatest-ever limited-overs batsmen was not finding any buyer in the auction for the upcoming season. In fact, Yuvraj had gone unsold in the first round of the auction before Mumbai Indians gave him a lifeline by buying him at his base price of INR 1 crore.
But while Yuvraj will be keen to prove a point, one cannot blame the franchises for not going for him in the auction. Yuvraj’s batting has been very unimpressive in the last couple of years. He has lost his place in the Indian team, is not playing regularly in domestic cricket and had a very poor outing with Kings XI Punjab in the last edition of the IPL. Yuvraj, who last played for India in mid-2017, managed to score just 65 runs in 8 outings last season before Kings XI Punjab decided to release him.
The southpaw, who was instrumental in India’s two victorious campaigns in World Cup, will now be raring to go and prove that he still has a lot to offer. Yuvraj will be desperate to show how wrong the other seven franchises were to not even consider him for a place in the squads when he represents Mumbai Indians this season. And it looks like the veteran batsman is in high spirits.
On Friday, Yuvraj ended up trolling himself on social media. Mumbai Indians posted a video of Yuvraj walking out to practice. The video interestingly is around 1 minute and 20 seconds long and shows only Yuvraj walking.
“Aur phir aaye Yuvraj Singh…Dhaaga khol diye,” tweeted Mumbai Indians along with the video.
But perhaps Yuvraj himself was unimpressed with the ‘walking video’ and hilariously wrote:
“Bhai sahab thoda tez chalo (Brother, please walk fast).”
Mumbai Indians eye redemption
MI, the first team to win three IPL titles, had a season to forget last year. Despite being the defending champions and one of the favourites to win the competition, they failed to live up to the expectations. The Rohit Sharma-led side managed to win just 2 of their opening 7 games which all but sealed their feat.
In the second half of the season, they won four games but it made little difference as they still failed to qualify for the playoffs, finishing at the fifth position. The Mumbai-based outfit, nonetheless, knows what it takes to bounce back and deliver and they will be eyeing another successful season.
