The 2016 Champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were involved in an easy-chase against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 22, Thursday. After acquiring these two crucial points, SRH has climbed up the ladder and is now placed at the fifth position in the points tally with 8 points.
Hyderabad’s win against Rajasthan has made the race of play-offs more intense as three teams namely SRH, RR and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) have eight points each in 10 games while the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) who is at the fourth place have 10 points in 10 fixtures.
Winning the toss, SRH captain David Warner elected to field. Batting first, Royals could manage to post only 154 runs on the board. Though the team had a decent start with 47 runs in the powerplay at the loss of one wicket, they flattened in the middle overs and were reeling at just 110 after losing four wickets within 16 overs.
Riyan Parag and pacer Jofra Archer tried to pace up the innings by hitting some big shots and took the team towards the respectable total of 150+. For SRH, Jason Holder had a dream spell as he took three wickets while 33 runs at an economy of 8.2. Both Rashid Khan and Vijay Shankar also had one each to their name.
Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar scripted victory for their team
With the Orange Army losing the two important wickets of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow within three overs, it was supposed to be an easy victory for the Royals as Kane Williamson was also rested for the fixture. However, the middle-order shined for Hyderabad as the right-hander Manish Pandey played a stellar knock of 83* off 47 deliveries including 4 fours and 8 sixes. He found a competent ally in the form of all-rounder Vijay Shankar who also showed some class by scoring 52* off 51 deliveries. The exploits by Pandey resulted in SRH registering victory by 8 wickets.
As far as the bowling unit is concerned, Jofra Archer was the only player to take two wickets of both the opposition openers. He was also the only bowler to have given runs while maintaining an economy of less than 6 (5.2).
