3. R Sai Kishore
There’s nothing wrong with R Sai Kishore. The Tamil Nadu off-spinner has had a terrific run in domestic cricket this season. He had a very good run in the Vijay Hazare Trophy before he finished the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the top of the wicket charts (he picked up 20 wickets). He was bound to get a bid from some team and it wasn’t a surprise it came from Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
However, it wasn’t a great move. CSK already have the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Imran Tahir, Harbhajan Singh, Karn Sharma and Mitchell Santner in the spin department. They added Piyush Chawla as well. With six frontline spinners already in the ranks, Kishore emerged as an unnecessary buy.
He is a local lad and will know the conditions well but the question is, with five other Indian spinners – all of them having some sort of international experience, will Sai Kishore get a chance to make it to the XI? There’s no doubt that it will be a big learning experience for him as he will get to share the dressing room with some of the other big spinners. However, if he would’ve been in another franchise, he would’ve got to play. Moreover, CSK could’ve opted for another Indian fast bowler and added some depth to the pace attack.
