IPL 2020: 3 Mistakes committed by the losing side in CSK vs MI
It just hasn't been CSK's year.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) found themselves on the losing side yet again as Mumbai Indians defeated them in a one-sided affair. The yellow army made several changes to their team to find a better balance with young players. However, luck favoured Mumbai since the beginning as they won the toss and invited CSK to bat first and their pacers didn’t let Chennai batsmen settle down at all.
As CSK’s top order collapsed, they were not able to get up and fight for a decent total. Though Sam Curran did his best and took his team to 114, such a small total was never enough against MI’s strong batting order. With just three matches remaining, CSK’s hopes of making the playoffs are all but over and we can expect several changes in upcoming games as well.
Here are the three mistakes committed by CSK in Match 41, CSK vs MI:-
1. Played rash shots against a top-quality bowling attack
With Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah and Nathan Coulter-Nile in their ranks, Mumbai Indians have one of the best bowling attacks. Thus, the CSK batsmen should have played the ball on its merit until they get settled to go big. However, instead of playing sensible shots, they played rash drives and punches against MI’s world-class bowlers and the same turned out to be catastrophic. Mumbai picked up wickets at regular intervals and the game went out of CSK’s control.
2. Not attacking with the new ball
Deepak Chahar and Josh Hazlewood are two of the renowned swing bowlers with the new ball. Even when CSK scored just 114, they had a chance to put MI under pressure by picking up early wickets. However, they didn’t attack properly and their field placements and the line and length looked a bit defensive. MI openers climbed onto the opportunity and got settled in no time to destroy CSK’s bowlers with serious hammering.
3. CSK lacked a proper plan
CSK made three changes in their line-up and gave opportunities to the youngsters. However, apart from this change they came to the field with the heavy baggage of seven losses. They didn’t have a proper plan and they failed in all the departments. For a team which has played the most number of finals in IPL history, such a misery looks hard to digest.
