IPL 2020: 3 Mistakes committed by the losing side in DC vs RCB game

Royal Challengers Bangalore ended up on the losing side as Delhi Capitals beat them by six wickets. Nothing went RCB’s way in their last league game as they lost an important toss and came out to bat first at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Their batting started sluggishly and their failure to score at a brisk rate led them to finish at a mere 152 for seven in 20 overs. Defending a below-par total was a strenuous task and Delhi played phenomenally to win the game quite comfortably.

Although with a superior net run-rate than KKR, RCB qualified for the playoffs, a win would have been better for them. They would have finished at the second position and would have played the Qualifier 1 against Mumbai Indians. To clinch their first IPL title, RCB need to win three games in a row from here.

Here are the three mistakes committed by RCB against DC:-

1. The slow partnership between Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal

Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal were in the middle after RCB lost their first wicket in the fifth over. As the par score at Abu Dhabi was on the higher side, both of them should have tried to increase the scoring rate to provide a decent platform for AB de Villiers.

However, in the 50-ball partnership, they ended up scoring only 57 runs. This slow approach put pressure on the rest of the batsmen and as they lost wickets, RCB failed to reach a big total.

2. Devdutt Padikkal failing to play till the end

Devdutt Padikkal was their leading run-scorer in this innings. However, when the team needed him to stay till the end, converting his start into a big knock, the 20-year-old got out.

He scored a decent fifty but had he stayed till the end with de Villiers, RCB would have scored something near 170. As the Pretoria-born de Villiers didn’t get support from the other end, he wasn’t able to finish well.

3. RCB brought Shahbaz Ahmed quite late

RCB were defending a low total and they aimed to pick early wickets. However, they missed a trick by waiting too long fo bring Shahbaz Ahmed into the attack as he is a frontline bowler.

The left-arm spinner bowled for the first time in the eleventh over and he picked up two big wickets in his spell. Had RCB brought him earlier, they could have created more pressure by picking some wickets earlier.
