IPL 2020: 3 Mistakes committed by the losing side in RCB vs CSK
After a thumping win against KKR, RCB repeated a few old mistakes again.
Royal Challengers Bangalore faced their fourth defeat as Chennai Super Kings thwarted them by 8 wickets. RCB started their innings quite well but as the pitch became slow, the run-scoring became tough. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers tried to settle down before going big at the end but they were not able to accelerate as they would have liked.
However, as the pitch was assisting the bowlers, 145 looked decent and the match was in balance during the innings break. But for CSK, their top-order batsmen finally fired to provide them with a solid platform which led them to an easy victory at the end. With three games remaining, RCB needs one win to qualify for the playoffs. However, they need to minimize their tactical mistakes to finally qualify after four years.
Here are the three mistakes committed by RCB against CSK:-
1. RCB tried too late to accelerate and failed
Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, their two most reliable batsmen were at the crease during the middle overs. They planned to build up with singles and doubles to fire in the death overs. However, they tried to go big only in the last three overs and the delay in the acceleration led to pressure. Eventually, they failed to score big runs in the last over as they lost continuous wickets and ended up scoring only 145 runs.
2. Not starting with Mohammed Siraj
Mohammed Siraj was their star performer in the last game. He bowled a tremendous spell to pick up three wickets in the powerplay against KKR. However, instead of giving him the new ball, RCB started with Washington Sundar and Chris Morris, which gave time for CSK batsmen to settle. If Siraj would have been given the new ball right away, RCB might have picked up early wickets and CSK’s chase could have been impeded.
3. Not using Yuzvendra Chahal in the middle overs
Yuzvendra Chahal is their leading wicket-taker and his role has been to provide wickets to RCB since last 3-4 years. However, when there was a partnership going on between Ambati Rayudu and Ruturaj Gaikwad and RCB needed wickets, Virat Kohli didn’t bowl him from 9th to 12th over and CSK took the game away between that only. As it was a hefty task to defend this total, RCB should have trusted their most valuable bowler.
