IPL 2020: 3 Mistakes committed by the losing side in SRH vs MI

Mumbai Indians lost their last game of the league stage as SRH comprehensively defeated them at Sharjah. It was a must-win match for SRH and they looked completely ready for the challenge. Mumbai on the other hand rested their two key bowlers and the same hurt them.

Their bowling looked quite fragile but it was their batting which disappointed them in the first innings. They had good news before the game that their skipper Rohit Sharma returned after a hamstring injury kept him out of the field for four matches.

However, their batting failed to make an impact in this game and they could only set a target of 150 which was comfortably chased by SRH. They will head on to the qualifier one, where they will face DC. MI have a lot of things to learn from this one-sided defeat on Tuesday.

Here are the three mistakes committed by MI against SRH:-

1. Resting their important players

MI had already sealed the top spot after winning nine games in the tournament. As the game had no impact on their playoffs qualification, the team opted to rest their key players. The plan was ideal to give some rest to fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult but MI missed them during the game.

They failed to grab a single wicket in this match and SRH cruised towards victory. Apart from losing the match, it can affect their performance in the playoffs too as winning is a habit and this can cause a shift in momentum.

2. No partnership in the middle

MI didn’t form a single long partnership throughout their innings. It was just several batsmen playing cameos. Also, their batsmen looked in a hurry and they lacked a plan to stay till the end and hit big shots.

If one of the batsmen would have played a big knock, Kieron Pollard’s finish could have taken them to around the 17o-run mark and defending that would have been completely different.

3. No intent in the field from MI

Although MI had nothing to lose from this game as they had already sealed the top spot, they could have shown better intent on the field. While defending a below-par total, they never looked attacking the field.

Their shoulders dropped pretty early and the team which had dismissed teams around 120 failed to grab a single wicket. Had they shown a slightly better effort, defending 149 could have been possible.
