Bought for INR 5 crore at 2019 IPL auction, the swashbuckling Mumbai all-rounder had a forgettable IPL debut season with Royal Challengers Bangalore making just four appearances throughout season twelve in which he managed 40 runs.
The hard-hitting southpaw who is capable of bowling useful right-arm-medium-fast spells was about to be released by RCB ahead of 2020 IPL auction but his maiden Team India call-up (for the T20I series against Bangladesh in November 2019) changed his fortunes as the franchise decided to retain him for season thirteen.
Dube who made his T20I debut against Bangladesh at Delhi has proved his all-round prowess in the limited opportunities he got so far, with his crucial spell (3-30) against Bangladesh in the series decider at Nagpur and sensational knock (54 off 30 balls) against West Indies at Thiruvananthapuram being the perfect examples.
The 26-year-old who couldn’t make it big due to the limited opportunities and the pressure of a heavy price tag last season deserves more chances to prove himself this time given his all-round credentials and International cricket exposure. Promoting Dube up in the batting order and giving him the quota of full four-overs might bring out the best from the talented Mumbaikar who deserves to feature in more games for RCB this season.
