1. Mustafizur Rahman
It was surprising to see Mustafizur going unsold with a base price of INR 1 crore at 2020 IPL auction despite putting up an impressive display of bowling at the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. The talented left-arm seamer who took 20 wickets in eight matches during the quadrennial event replicated his magic in the 2019-20 Bangladesh Premier League as well.
Playing for Rangpur Riders in season seven of Bangladesh’s premier domestic T20 league, the 24-year-old emerged as the joint-highest wicket-taker alongside Pakistan speedster Mohammad Amir with 20 wickets to his name. Despite enjoying moderate success during his one-year stint with Mumbai Indians during 2018 IPL, the Satkhira-born pacer has already made a mark in the IPL while representing Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Given his death-bowling credentials, pace variations and wicket-taking abilities, Mustafizur who 135 T20 wickets to his name would have been the ideal candidate to bolster RCB’s beleaguered bowling attack. He would have been a valuable asset apart from being another long-term investment for Virat Kohli’s men had they gone for the Bangladesh pacer instead of Kane Richardson.
