Karnataka boy Mayank Agarwal has lit up this edition of the Indian Premier League. He has been the most impactful batsmen for KXIP at the top with his explosive knocks. He has scored 272 runs in five innings at an average of 54.40 and a strike-rate of 162.87, which is the third highest among batsmen with more than 150 runs.

Agarwal has played two of the best knocks of the season, both of which have unfortunately come in close losses for the Punjab side. He scored 89 against Delhi Capitals in a chase of 158, where barely any batsmen supported him. His maiden IPL century (106) was the 2nd fastest 100 by an Indian in the league. Punjab lost against Delhi in the Super Over, while they were on the receiving end of unexpected brilliance from Rahul Tewatia, who smacked Cottrell for five sixes in the 18th over, against RR.

He also chipped in with 20s in the other three innings, ensuring that Punjab continue to get good starts. The primary reason for preferring him over other options is that he has not been afraid of scoring quick. While KL Rahul is the Orange Cap holder as of the 18th Match, barring the 132* against RCB, has given relatively slower starts. Yet another Karnataka boy makes it to this team. Padikkal has impressed fans and critics with his impeccable performances at the top for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He has easily been RCB’s best batsman this season. He has scored 174 runs in four innings at an average of 43.50 and a strike-rate of 134.88, with three half-centuries.

Padikkal has played a crucial role in all three wins for RCB this season. He set the tone for a perfect start to the season with a 42-ball 56 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He missed out in the clash against Punjab, but he came back strong with consecutive half-centuries against Mumbai and Rajasthan.

His consistency is the major reason why he has been considered over other veteran openers. Now a Delhi Capitals veteran, Shreyas Iyer has played the role of a top-order batsman extremely well. He has the led the Capitals from the front with his consistency. He has scored 170 runs in four innings at an average of 56.66 and a strike-rate of 150.44, with a highest score of 88*.

Iyer scored the impeccable 88* against <a href="https://www.facebook.com/crictracker/photos/a.601832999847425/3954705611226797" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Kolkata Knight Riders</strong></a> in Sharjah. Youngster Ishan Kishan has had a good start to the IPL after being out of the first two games. He came in as a replacement of Saurabh Tiwary in the playing XI. He has scored 158 runs in three innings at an average of 52.67, and a strike-rate of 139.82, with a top-score of 99.

Kishan was not the first choice no.4 for the Mumbai side. After coming in as Tiwary&#8217;s replacement, he did not disappoint at all. He scored 99 runs against RCB, and almost took his side home with the help of Kieron Pollard. He continued to be in the runs in the following two games as well.

Kishan shall keep wickets in the team, since AB de Villiers has an ageing back now. He has proven himself as a good keeper at the domestic level. Star West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard has had an excellent IPL 2020. He has scored 163 runs in five innings at a mammoth strike-rate of 208.97. He has the highest strike-rate among batsmen who have played 50 balls or more. He has hit 13 sixes, which is the 2nd highest till now after Sanju Samson.

Pollard’s first special innings of the season was a 60* off just 24 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore, while chasing 202, after 78/4. He managed to tie the scores before RCB clinched the game in the Super Over. He continued his heroics against Kings XI Punjab, scoring 47* off just 20 deliveries. Haryana all-rounder Rahul Tewatia has been the find of the season for the Royals. He has scored 101 runs in four innings at an average of 33.67 and a strike-rate of 165.57. He has also taken four wickets at an economy rate of 9.00.

Tewatia’s performance of the season was his 53 off 31 balls against Kings XI Punjab, which came in a record run-chase of 224 runs- the highest in the history of the IPL. He smacked Cottrell for five sixes in the 18th over after struggling to get bat on ball for the first 19 balls, where he scored only eight runs. He has played the role of a gun all-rounder for Rajasthan with his impeccable six-hitting lower down the order, and lethal spells in the powerplay and the death overs. Archer has not been himself when it comes to wicket-taking, but he has done an excellent job of containing the runs. <p>In a team of modern-day legends like Virat and AB, Chahal’s consistent performances have gone unnoticed for seasons now. Currently the Purple Cap holder, he has taken eight wickets in four games at an economy rate of 7.18.</p>
<p>Chahal has played a pivotal role in all victories for Royal Challengers Bangalore this season. He picked up 3/18 against SRH while defending 163 in the first game of the season. He took the important wicket of Quinton de Kock in a run-fest at Dubai in the match against Mumbai. He then took 3/24 against Rajasthan Royals in Abu Dhabi.</p>

<p>South African pacer Kagiso Rabada has been the best fast bowler of the tournament comfortably. With eight wickets to his name in four innings, he has picked up from where he left off last season. He has bowled at an economy rate of 7.87, which are excellent numbers for a wicket-taking fast bowler.</p>
<p>Rabada took 2/28 against Kings XI Punjab, playing a pivotal role in the close victory. He had also knocked Punjab out for two runs in the Super Over. He followed up with figures of 3/26 and 2/21 in the next two games. Sharjah, however, was not too kind to him where he conceded 51 runs and took a solitary wicket.</p>

<p>Veteran pacer Mohammad Shami has been the best Indian pacer of the season till now. His deadly spells in the powerplay have left teams with no answer. He has taken eight wickets in five matches at an average of 19.12 and an economy of 8.19.</p>

However, his efforts went in vain after Punjab lost the match in the Super Over, where he only had two runs to defend. He bowled extremely well upfront in the match against RCB, with figures of 1/14 in three overs. He continued his good form in the coming matches, however, he has conceded a lot of runs in his last three games.</p>

With Kieron Pollard’s blistering 60* against RCB chasing 202, Mohammed Shami’s 3/15 in the 2nd game of the season, Rahul Tewatia’s 5 sixes in an over- the fans have seen it all, and more.</p>
<p>The IPL continues to be an excellent platform for players to showcase their skills in the shortest format. This year, all teams have put up a good fight, and we do not see any clear winners/losers as of now. All the teams have managed to open their accounts. It looks like the season will go down to the wire.</p>
<p>The team mentioned is the opinion of the author, and there are certainly other players who deserved to make this XI. However, the thought process behind choosing every player has been explained clearly. The team has batsmen who can bat upto number eight, and there are six bowling options with five regular bowlers. </p>

<p>Karnataka boy Mayank Agarwal has lit up this edition of the Indian Premier League. He has been the most impactful batsmen for KXIP at the top with his explosive knocks. He has scored 272 runs in five innings at an average of 54.40 and a strike-rate of 162.87, which is the third highest among batsmen with more than 150 runs.</p>
<p>Agarwal has played two of the best knocks of the season, both of which have unfortunately come in close losses for the Punjab side. He scored 89 against Delhi Capitals in a chase of 158, where barely any batsmen supported him. His maiden IPL century (106) was the 2nd fastest 100 by an Indian in the league. Punjab lost against Delhi in the Super Over, while they were on the receiving end of unexpected brilliance from Rahul Tewatia, who smacked Cottrell for five sixes in the 18th over, against RR.</p>
<p>He also chipped in with 20s in the other three innings, ensuring that Punjab continue to get good starts. The primary reason for preferring him over other options is that he has not been afraid of scoring quick. While KL Rahul is the Orange Cap holder as of the 18th Match, barring the 132* against RCB, has given relatively slower starts. Rohit Sharma hasn’t been as consistent, and Faf du Plessis has not been as impactful as the other overseas players in the XI.</p>

<p>Yet another Karnataka boy makes it to this team. Padikkal has impressed fans and critics with his impeccable performances at the top for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He has easily been RCB’s best batsman this season. He has scored 174 runs in four innings at an average of 43.50 and a strike-rate of 134.88, with three half-centuries.</p>
<p>Padikkal has played a crucial role in all three wins for RCB this season. He set the tone for a perfect start to the season with a 42-ball 56 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He missed out in the clash against Punjab, but he came back strong with consecutive half-centuries against Mumbai and Rajasthan.</p>
<p>His consistency is the major reason why he has been considered over other veteran openers. He has had a positive impact in all the wins for the Challengers, and his partnerships with Australian captain Aaron Finch have set up the entire game for RCB consistently. He also brings a left-right hand option to the table, having been the best left-handed opener this season.</p>

<p>Now a Delhi Capitals veteran, Shreyas Iyer has played the role of a top-order batsman extremely well. He has the led the Capitals from the front with his consistency. He has scored 170 runs in four innings at an average of 56.66 and a strike-rate of 150.44, with a highest score of 88*.</p>
<p>Iyer scored the impeccable 88* against <a href="https://www.facebook.com/crictracker/photos/a.601832999847425/3954705611226797" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Kolkata Knight Riders</strong></a> in Sharjah. He had scored 82 runs in the three innings prior to this, which shows that he was getting the starts but was unable to convert them into big scores. His captaincy has also been spot-on, with excellent decisions.</p>
<p>Iyer walks into this side on the basis of both his captaincy and his batting prowess. He shall get the help of experienced players like AB de Villiers and Pollard in this team.</p>

<p>De Villiers started the season with a 30-ball 51 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The extra runs proved to be crucial in the end, with RCB winning by 10 runs. Against Mumbai Indians, he scored a quick-fire 55 off just 24 balls, taking on the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and James Pattinson. He came in to bat after the game was virtually finished off, scoring 12*. In the only game RCB lost against KXIP, he looked the most fluent with the bat with 28 runs off 18 balls.</p>
<p>The core reason for keeping de Villiers in the team is to add an element of experience to the XI. A relatively young top-order needs an experienced batsmen who can play the anchor in times of crisis, and someone who can attack at will. De Villiers fits both the criteria. He is also an exceptional fielder, and can even keep wickets if the team require.</p>

<p>Youngster Ishan Kishan has had a good start to the IPL after being out of the first two games. He came in as a replacement of Saurabh Tiwary in the playing XI. He has scored 158 runs in three innings at an average of 52.67, and a strike-rate of 139.82, with a top-score of 99.</p>
<p>Kishan was not the first choice no.4 for the Mumbai side. After coming in as Tiwary&#8217;s replacement, he did not disappoint at all. He scored 99 runs against RCB, and almost took his side home with the help of Kieron Pollard. He continued to be in the runs in the following two games as well.</p>
<p>Kishan shall keep wickets in the team, since AB de Villiers has an ageing back now. He has proven himself as a good keeper at the domestic level. Besides playing the role of a keeper, he has been consistent with the bat, unlike a Sanju Samson, for example, who has only performed in Sharjah. The number four-five role also suits him well.</p>

<p>Star West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard has had an excellent IPL 2020. He has scored 163 runs in five innings at a mammoth strike-rate of 208.97. He has the highest strike-rate among batsmen who have played 50 balls or more. He has hit 13 sixes, which is the 2nd highest till now after Sanju Samson.</p>
<p>Pollard’s first special innings of the season was a 60* off just 24 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore, while chasing 202, after 78/4. He managed to tie the scores before RCB clinched the game in the Super Over. He continued his heroics against Kings XI Punjab, scoring 47* off just 20 deliveries. He finished the game against Hyderabad this Sunday with a thrilling 25* off 13 balls.</p>
<p>Pollard has played the role of the perfect number six for Mumbai Indians this season. He can also provide crucial overs with the ball. He has taken one wicket at the expense of 54 runs in seven overs. His spells of 1/21 (3 overs) against KKR and 0/20 (3 overs) against SRH have shown us his value with the ball.</p>
