IPL 2020: Brad Hogg feels Dinesh Karthik should continue as KKR skipper with Eoin Morgan in the team
Fans are not happy with the way Karthik is batting and leading the team at the moment.
Dinesh Karthik has been under some pressure in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). His bad form with the bat has couple with a few poor decisions as the skipper and the fans are demanding for him to be sacked now. They want the World up-winning Eoin Morgan to lead KKR for the rest of the season and expect him to bring the team back on track.
KKR are currently at the fourth position in the points table with two wins and as many losses in four outings. But their previous loss at the hands of Delhi Capitals (DC) had left many fuming. Karthik sent Andre Russell ahead of him in the steep chase and walked in to bat ahead of Eoin Morgan. He ended up scoring only 6 runs off 8 balls which led to the required run-rate shooting up.
On the flip side, Morgan batted well to take the game close and it was only due to him and Rahul Tripathi (who was sent at 8) that KKR could reach 210 while chasing 229. While the calls for Dinesh Karthik’s sacking as KKR skipper are growing, former Australia skipper Brad Hogg has come out in his support stating that the franchise shouldn’t change the captain midway through the season.
What if Morgan loses form? asks Brad Hogg
He also said that Karthik is doing a good job at the moment and the captaincy shouldn’t be given to Eoin Morgan as team will be in trouble if the England skipper loses form. Hogg pointed out that the whole team combination has to be changed if Morgan loses his touch during the tournament and is to be dropped from the side. However, he suggested KKR and Dinesh Karthik to utilise Morgan’s experience to the fullest.
“Look, I’d love this move to make Eoin Morgan KKR captain. Morgan is a great captain, and when you got someone like that in your team, you got to utilise those skills. But Dinesh Karthik is doing a good job, but he has to utilise Morgan’s skills. You gotta realise in their team they can only play four overseas players.
“If Morgan starts finding a little bit of misfortune with his form, they have to bring in Tom Banton. Having him as captain will make it difficult to drop Morgan. So, I’d stick with Dinesh Karthik, but utilise Morgan’s experience,” Brad Hogg said while answering to a fan’s question on his Youtube channel. KKR are scheduled to face the rejuvenated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi.
