MS Dhoni has been the talking point in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). It has all been about his batting. First it was his batting position and then when he actually batted up the order, the veteran struggled. He hasn’t been able to time the ball this season and the man has admitted the same as well. However, amidst all his and Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) struggles, his wicket-keeping has stayed the same.

He is known for his brilliance behind the wickets as well and MS Dhoni has lived up to the reputation in that aspect. After leaping to get a catch earlier in the tournament, the CSK captain was at it once again in his 200th IPL game on Monday. Defending 125 runs to stay alive in the playoff race, the Men in Yellow needed early wickets and Deepak Chahar and Josh Hazlewood had done just that picking two wickets upfront.

Sanju Samson was at the crease in the fifth over with Chahar swinging it nicely. However, on the third delivery of the over, the pacer drifted the ball down the leg-side. Looking at the opportunity to score runs, Samson tried to eke out a boundary but ended up edging it to the wicket-keeper. The ball went low to MS Dhoni and the man was ready pouch it in the webbing between the thumb and forefinger.

It was a brilliant catch given that MS Dhoni’s first movement was to the off-side and then he had to dive to the leg-side, crouch low and get hold of the ball.

MS Dhoni struggles with the bat again

While MS Dhoni continued to shine behind the wickets, his struggles with the bat continued even in the must-win game for CSK. After coming in to bat at 53/3, he never looked like taking on the bowlers. He trudged along picking singles mostly and could only hit two fours during his run-a-ball 28. The partnership of 51 runs with Ravindra Jadeja didn’t infuse any confidence. CSK could only post 125 on the board scoring 82 runs in last 14 overs of the innings.
