IPL 2020: Gautam Gambhir comes up with a cryptic tweet after KKR changes captaincy mid-season
Dinesh Karthik handed over KKR captaincy to Eoin Morgan.
Just when things looked normal under the bio-bubble set-up in the United Arab Emirates, surprising news broke out from the Kolkata Knight Riders’ den. The tenacious cricketer Dinesh Karthik has stepped down from the captain’s post and has transferred the hat of stewardship to the current white-ball England skipper Eoin Morgan.
Putting an end to the leadership questions raised towards him, Dinesh Karthik was quick to give away the skipper’s hat before heading on to the second leg of the cash-rich league. The flamboyant power-hitter Morgan has etched his name as of the best in the business after he steered the national team to cross the line of much-deserving triumph in the 2019 World Cup.
“DK and Eoin have worked brilliantly together during this tournament and although Eoin takes over as captain, this is effectively a role swap,” says CEO and MD @VenkyMysore,” Kolkata Knight Riders official Twitter handle stated.
The news has received mixed reactions from the fans and the experts as some believed that such a mid-season decision can wreak havoc to the temperament of the gold and purple outfit whereas many felt the move has been taken in the best interest of the greater good in the long run of the side. Not to everyone’s surprise, the Tamil Nadu cricketer received heavy criticism for his poor decisions in the initial matches of the 13th edition. The talisman has scored meager 107 runs in the ongoing stint for the team.
Gautam Gambhir makes his opinion drawing attention from the fans
Meanwhile, the former KKR captain, Gautam Gambhir posted a cryptic tweet on his Twitter handle which read “It takes years to build a legacy but a minute to destroy it.” Although the Delhi-based former batsman had not tagged anyone or said it in response to any other tweet, the most obvious reference, was to the change in KKR captaincy, as the post was put up just moments after the change was formally announced by the team.
With the Knights slated to lock horns against the mighty Mumbai Indians in match number 32, it will be exciting to see Eoin Morgan sporting the captain’s tag. Albeit, it is yet to be seen whether the T20 specialist, who has already amassed 175 runs in 7 matches that he has played in the ongoing season, will display his swashbuckling knock in the upcoming faceoffs or fall back shouldering the pressure of millions of fans.
