The much-awaited 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) will get underway from September 19, with the final to take place on November 10. Due to the rise in the number of coronavirus cases in India, the tournament was delayed and has now been moved out of the country. The 2020 edition of the cash-rich league will be played across three venues namely Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.
IPL franchise Delhi Capitals are being considered as one of the favourites to lift the IPL trophy this year however, the team has been hit with some bad luck as two of its main players have pulled out their names from the 2020 edition of the cash-rich league. Earlier this year, England’s pacer Chris Woakes had opted out of the tournament to focus on his international commitments.
As per ESPNCricinfo, another English cricketer Jason Roy has been ruled out of the World’s biggest T20 league. The development came after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Thursday that Roy has been ruled out of the T20 series against Pakistan due to a side strain. The opener was hurt during practice at Old Trafford this week and had a scan on Wednesday which revealed the injury.
Daniel Sams to feature in Delhi Capitals squad
As Jason is not fit to be the part of the cash-rich league, Australia’s left-arm fast bowler Daniel Sams will replace him in Delhi Capitals’ squad. Sams will be the second fast bowler which the Delhi team has hired after the auction. Earlier they had brought in Anrich Nortje in place of Chris Woakes.
The paceman will be making his debut in the Indian Premier League this year. He had made headlines after his brilliant performance for Sydney Thunder at the 2019-20 Big Bash League where he finished as the tournament’s highest wicket-taker. The speedster will also be making his international debut for Australia in September. Australia is touring England for a three-match T20 and ODI series scheduled from September 4 to September 16.
Roy was bought by Capitals in 2020 Auction at his base price of INR 1.5 crore. The explosive batsman has till now played only 8 IPL matches scoring 179 runs at an average of 29.8.
