Pat Cummins doesn’t have an overwhelming record while playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Having picked up 17 wickets from 16 matches, the Australian fast bowler is yet to find his feet in the cash-rich and prestigious T20 tournament. Going into the upcoming IPL, the 27-year-old will have a tough task at hand after being roped in by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
The speedster had played for the Knights for two seasons after making his IPL debut in 2014. He also turned out for the Delhi Daredevils, now Capitals. However, in the last auction, Cummins managed to hog quite a bit of limelight. The Knights shelled out a stunning INR 15.5 crores, making him the highest paid overseas player in the glorious history of the T20 mega event.
Pat Cummins strengthens KKR’s bowling armoury
The KKR bowling had a tough time last season despite having the likes of Prasidh Krishna, Lockie Ferguson and Andre Russell in their ranks. Leave alone picking wickets, they couldn’t even put a lid on run-scoring. Cummins’ addition will only add firepower to their bowling attack as the Kolkata franchise looks to make amends after failing to qualify for the playoffs last time.
In the meantime, the Knights didn’t forget to send out a warning to the opposition ahead of the 2020 edition of the IPL. The Men in Gold and Purple uploaded a video where Cummins can be seen, rattling woodworks. It was a clip where the paceman was playing for the Sydney Thunder in the match against Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League (BPL).
Cummins managed to rip apart the poles of Heat’s Brendon McCullum and Alex Ross. Interestingly, he will be playing in the Knight Riders with McCullum as their head coach. KKR shared a throwback video, eager to unleash him in the tournament, starting September 19 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In his T20 career, Pat has picked up 96 wickets from 80 matches.
The Knight Riders captioned the video and wrote, “Throwback to some Absolute rippers from @patcummins30. He’s castled some of the best batsmen from the cricket world, including our head-coach. Coming soon, to #IPL2020.”
