IPL 2020: Krishnappa Gowtham traded to Kings XI Punjab for the upcoming season
The Royals had bought Gowtham for a hefty amount of Rs 6.2 crore.
The Rajasthan Royals (RR) have traded all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham to the Kings XI Punjab for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. In turn, the Royals have secured the services of Ankit Rajpoot who played for the KXIP in the previous season. Gowtham, meanwhile, didn’t impress much for his erstwhile side which has led to him being traded to the Punjab franchise.
The trading window is set to close on November 14 as the IPL Governing Council has directed the franchises to submit their final released and retained players’ list. The auction for the 2020 season of the cash-rich league is scheduled to take place on December 19 in Kolkata.
Royals had bought Gowtham for Rs 6.2 crore in the IPL auction
ESPNCricinfo confirmed the news of Krishnappa Gowtham being traded to the Kings XI Punjab for the IPL 2020. The Karnataka all-rounder was in great form in the KPL earlier this year and is currently playing in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for his state. He was bought by the Rajasthan Royals for a hefty amount of Rs 6.2 crore while Rajpoot had gone to the KXIP for Rs 3 crore.
Meanwhile, the count of Karnataka players in the KXIP side has increased now with Jagadeesha Suchith and Gowtham joining the likes of KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Karun Nair. The franchise has also traded their skipper Ravi Ashwin and Rahul is expected to be given the leadership duties for the upcoming edition.
Meanwhile, in another trade-off, Trent Boult has joined Mumbai Indians. He played for the Delhi Capitals in the last season who had bought the left-arm pacer for Rs 2.2 crore. As far as Rajpoot is concerned, the Royals will be delighted to have secured his services. The pace bowler has been doing well in the domestic circuit on a consistent basis and recently took a five-wicket haul in just two overs in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Rajpoot played only four matches for KXIP last season picking three wickets at an economy rate of 9.5. He was also injured during the season which was one of the reasons for him to not play many matches in the IPL 2019.
