Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), after a couple of defeats to start with, have won back-to-back matches in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). After getting past the Delhi Capitals (DC), David Warner and Co defeated the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by seven runs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
In their innings, the Sunrisers strained to find their feet, yet posted a significant 164 for five in 20 overs. In their run-chase, CSK lost wickets at regular intervals even as the required-rate kept mounting alarmingly.
In the end, the Yellow Army ended with 157 in their 20 overs. Dhoni and Co got a flurry of boundaries in the death overs, but they came all too late. The victory has taken the Orange Army to fourth in the points table. For the Super Kings, they remain at the bottom of the points table.
Here are the SRH Player Ratings for the CSK vs SRH match:
David Warner- 6.5/10
David Warner played 29 balls and batted until the 11th over, but he couldn’t get going. He could only manage 28 runs with three fours and played at a strike-rate of 96.55. Piyush Chawla dismissed him when the batter tried to take him on. Faf du Plessis took an impressive juggling catch at long-on.
Jonny Bairstow- 1/10
Jonny Bairstow has played some decent knocks in this IPL, but he couldn’t open his account on Friday. In the very first over, after playing three dot deliveries, fast bowler Deepak Chahar foxed him with an in-swinger. The ball smashed Bairstow’s pads and then cannoned into the stumps.
Manish Pandey- 8/10
Manish Pandey scored only 29 runs off 21 balls, but he played an important role after Bairstow’s early wicket. He put on 46 runs for the second wicket along with Warner. He perished in the eighth over to Shardul Thakur. The batter tried to hit the ball away, but holed out to Sam Curran at covers.
Kane Williamson- 3/10
Kane Williamson played a handy knock against the Capitals. However, he was on the wrong side of luck this time around. He started with a four and was then run out as MS Dhoni took the bails off. Priyam Garg called for a single and then changed his mind. Kane managed nine off 13 deliveries.
Priyam Garg- 9.5/10
Priyam Garg made some amends after being involved in Williamson’s run out. He came to bat in the 11th over and started in a cautious manner. In the end, the youngster stayed unbeaten and notched his maiden IPL half-century. The batter scored 51 runs off 26 balls with the help of six fours and a six.
Abhishek Sharma- 8.5/10
Abhishek Sharma gave a glimpse of his sheer talent. The left-handed batsman scored 31 off 24 balls with four fours and a six. Most importantly, he was involved in a 77-run stand for the fourth wicket with Garg. He got out to Deepak Chahar in the last ball of the 18th over, edging the ball to Dhoni.
Abdul Samad- 7/10
Abdul Samad did a decent job in the game in the limited chances he got. To start with, he stayed unbeaten on eight from six balls. With his slow leg-breaks, the Young Turk pinned Kedar Jadhav in the ninth over. He also took the Sunrisers over the line after being asked to defend 21 runs in the last over.
Rashid Khan- 9.5/10
Rashid Khan might not have picked up a wicket in the four overs he bowlers, but he gave absolutely nothing away to the Super Kings. Barring the one four Dhoni hit off him in the last over, CSK couldn’t even rotate the strike against the tweaker. He gave 12 runs at an economy of three with 16 dot balls.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar- 9/10
Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled reasonably and bowled at an economy rate of 6.31 to go with four dot balls. But he couldn’t complete his quota and went off after the first ball of his last over after he twisted his calf/ankle. The Meerut-born speedster pinned Shane Watson to get his only wicket.
T Natarajan- 8.5/10
T Natarajan gave 43 runs at had an economy rate of 10.75 in his four overs to go with nine dots. But he, probably, got two of the most important wickets. To begin with, the left-arm pacer nipped out Ambati Rayudu. Thereafter, he sent back Ravindra Jadeja, who was looking ominous at 50 off 35.
Khaleel Ahmed- 6/10
Khaleel Ahmed gave only 19 runs in the first three overs he bowled. He was then entrusted to complete five balls of the 19th over after Bhuvneshwar left the field. He didn’t quite a great day overall as he gave 34 runs off 3.5 overs. He conceded three fours and a six with nine dot balls.
