IPL 2020: Match 17, MI vs SRH – Mumbai Indians Player Ratings

Mumbai Indians (MI) have managed to go to the top of the points table in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). After beating the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Rohit Sharma and Co defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 34 runs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

The Mumbai-based franchise bowled brilliantly as the Sunrisers became the first team to score under 200 in Sharjah in this edition’s IPL. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, MI could have fallen short of 200. However, a flurry of boundaries in the last over took the team to a substantial 208 for five in their 20 overs.

In the run-chase, SRH chipped away at the target with grace, but then lost wickets. The required-rate went up and the Orange Army finished on 174. With the loss, the Sunrisers keep hanging in the middle of the table.

Rohit Sharma- 3/10

Rohit Sharma had a tough time with the bat. The opener pulled Sandeep Sharma for a colossal six over the deep mid-wicket to get off the mark. But in the first over, he nicked one to Jonny Bairstow. The Sunrisers took the DRS and it paid dividends as a spike appeared when the ball passed Rohit’s bat.

Quinton de Kock- 9/10

Quinton de Kock got back to form after some indifferent outings. The left-hander notched 67 runs off 39 balls and helped MI recover after Rohit’s early wicket. His knock was laced with four fours and as many sixes. Spinner Rashid Khan got rid of him in the 14th over after De Kock mistimed a pull.

Suryakumar Yadav- 7.5/10

Suryakumar Yadav got a few to the boundary, but got out after scoring 27 runs off 18 balls. He smashed six fours and then got out to Siddarth Kaul. The latter was a tad lucky and got away after bowling a slower-ball down the leg-side with fine leg up. T Natarajan took the catch at short fine leg.

Ishan Kishan- 7.5/10

Ishan Kishan scored 31 off 23 balls with the help of one four and a couple of sixes. The left-hander would have hoped to play at a higher strike-rate, keeping in mind the batting-friendly nature of the strip in Sharjah. He perished to Sandeep Sharma after Manish Pandey took a stunner in the deep.

Hardik Pandya- 7.5/10

Hardik Pandya tried his best while batting in the death overs. He came to bat after Kishan’s dismissal and scored 28 runs off 19 balls with the help of two fours and as many sixes. He perished in the last over after Siddarth Kaul castled him with a yorker. Pandya also took the catch to dismiss Bairstow.

Kieron Pollard- 8.5/10

Kieron Pollard has been exceptional in the death over in 2020 and didn’t flatter to deceive even on Sunday. He came to bat in the 15th over and played his shots with efficiency. The Trinidadian notched 25 off 13 balls with the help of three sixes. With the ball, he gave only 20 runs from three overs.

Krunal Pandya- 9/10

Krunal Pandya played some superlative strokes when he came to bat in the last over. He smashed two sixes and two fours in his four-ball 20. He played at a strike-rate of 500 and propelled MI to the massive total. With the ball, he conceded 35 runs at 8.75 and also picked up Priyam Garg’s wicket.

James Pattinson-  9.5/10

James Pattinson was exemplary, to say the least. He was one of MI’s standout bowlers on the day. In four overs, he gave a mere 29 runs at an economy of 7.25 with eight dot balls. He churned out the prized scalps of David Warner and Manish Pandey, who both threatened to win SRH the match.

Rahul Chahar- 3/10

Rahul Chahar didn’t have much to do in the match. In one over, the leg-spinner gave away 16 runs. He was taken for a couple of sixes and he wasn’t entrusted for another over. In the field, he took the crucial catch of Garg, who came into this game on the back of a half-century against MS Dhoni’s CSK.

Trent Boult- 9.5/10

Trent Boult had an excellent day with the ball. In four overs, the left-arm speedster gave 28 runs from four overs with as many as 11 dot balls- the most among the MI bowlers. In fact, it was Boult, who struck first blood, dismissing Bairstow. Thereafter, the fast bowler got rid of Kane Williamson.

Jasprit Bumrah- 8/10

Jasprit Bumrah, among the fast bowlers, was the most expensive during SRH’s run-chase. He gave away 41 runs in his four overs at an economy of 10.25. He was taken for four fours and two sixes. However, the speedster made some amends, getting rid of Abdul Samad and Abhishek Sharma.
