Chennai Super Kings (CSK) found themselves in a rabbit hole after losing three games in succession in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). However, MS Dhoni’s men rose like a phoenix from the ashes and made a comeback, beating the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by 10 wickets.
Most crucially, the Super Kings moved up from the bottom of the points table with Punjab being the new cellar dwellers. When KXIP elected to bat first, the odds were against CSK as in Dubai, the chasing team had lost all seven games in this IPL.
And after KL Rahul’s men notched 178 for four, the Yellow Army needed to put their best foot forward. During the run-chase, not only did CSK chase the target down, but also stamped their authority they are known for. They accomplished the target with 14 balls to spare.
Here are the CSK Player Ratings for the KXIP vs CSK match: –
Shane Watson- 9.5/10
Shane Watson wasn’t having the greatest of tournaments with the bat in hand. But on Sunday, he rose to the occasion and smashed the bowlers around. He notched his half-century off a mere 31 balls and carried on. In the end, Watson stayed unbeaten on 83 off 53 with 11 fours and three sixes.
Faf du Plessis- 9.5/10
Faf du Plessis has arguably been CSK’s standout batter in the tournament. After a few of his valiant efforts went in vain, he eventually turned up with a match-winning knock. The right-hander scored 87 off 53. His knock was laced with 10 fours and he shared an unbeaten 181-run stand with Watson.
Ambati Rayudu- N/A
Kedar Jadhav- N/A
MS Dhoni- 6/10
MS Dhoni has had his fair share of travails and he was under pressure due to CSK’s lacklustre show earlier. But he showed his captaincy prowess, leading his team to victory. He didn’t get a chance to bat though. In KXIP’s innings, he took KL Rahul’s catch to give Shardul Thakur his second wicket.
Ravindra Jadeja- 8/10
Ravindra Jadeja wasn’t in the best of forms with the ball in hand. But he managed to make some amends. In four overs, the left-arm spinner gave away only 30 runs and had an economy rate of 7.50. Moreover, he got rid of Mandeep Singh, who was looking ominous on 27 runs off 16 balls.
Sam Curran- 3/10
Sam Curran had an off day with the ball in hand. He could hardly put a lid on the run-scoring. In three overs, England’s seamer bowled only three dot balls. He conceded 31 runs off three overs at 10.33 and was hit for three fours and a six. He wasn’t entrusted to complete his quota of overs.
Dwayne Bravo- 4/10
Dwayne Bravo didn’t have a good day with the ball either. The West Indies veteran bowled seven dot balls and gave away 38 runs in his four overs. He gave away three fours and a six in his spell. Bravo was also a tad erratic as he leaked a couple of wides as well. He will have to pull his socks up.
Piyush Chawla- 7/10
Piyush Chawla was the most expensive bowler for the KXIP on the day. In two overs, he leaked 22 runs and bowled only a couple of dots. He was hit for two sixes as well. However, he got the prized wicket of Mayank Agarwal in the ninth over when the right-hander holed out to Sam Curran.
Shardul Thakur- 8/10
Shardul Thakur bowled his heart out. In four overs, he went for quite a few conceding 39 runs at an economy of 9.75. But once, he was on a hat-trick in the 18th over. To start with, he got rid of the dangerous Nicholas Pooran. Then in the very next delivery, he removed KXIP skipper KL Rahul.
Deepak Chahar- 8/10
Deepak Chahar didn’t get a wicket, but he was frugal as well. In fact, he was the most economical bowler for the Super Kings. In three overs, he gave away 17 runs with nine dot balls. He conceded only two fours. It was a tad surprising that Dhoni didn’t allow him to complete his four overs.
