IPL 2020: Match 21, KKR vs CSK – Kolkata Knight Riders Player Ratings
The Knights turned the screws on the CSK batters in the second-half of the match.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) managed to stage a comeback in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) after their 18-run defeat at the hands of Delhi Capitals (DC). The team, led by Dinesh Karthik, beat the Chennai Super Kings by 10 runs at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Men in Gold and Purple were bowled out for 167 in their 20 overs. The Super Kings made a handsome start to their run-chase. Shane Watson notched 50 runs to set the tone for the Yellow Army.
But in the middle overs, MS Dhoni and Co lost all the momentum. In the end, the required rate kept climbing and CSK ended on 157 for five. In the meantime, the Knight Riders moved to the third position of the table even as the Super Kings stayed at the fifth position.

Rahul Tripathi- 9.5/10
Rahul Tripathi was promoted up the order after his impactful knock against the Capitals. The youngster didn’t disappoint on Wednesday as well as he scored 81 runs off 51 balls with the help of eight fours and three massive sixes. He got out to Dwayne Bravo, trying to play through third man.
Shubman Gill- 3/10
Shubman Gill didn’t have a great day. A lot was expected of him since he was one of KKR’s standout batters. But he flattered to deceive. In 12 balls, he got 11 runs with one four. Prior to this game, he got out to Shardul Thakur two times. Even this time around, Thakur got rid of the young batsman.
Nitish Rana- 3/10
Nitish Rana slogged one for a four to start his knock. But he couldn’t face the brunt of the CSK bowlers, perishing for nine off 10 balls. The southpaw tried to clear the long on region, taking on leg-spinner Karn Sharma. To his sheer dismay, Rana mistimed one and holed out to Ravindra Jadeja.
Sunil Narine- 7.5/10
Sunil Narine, after a few lacklustre shows as an opener, was sent in at number four. The move didn’t backfire as he scored 17 off nine balls with a six and a four. With the ball, he was introduced in the 12th over and it turned out to be a masterstroke. He dismissed Watson and gave away 31 runs.
Eoin Morgan- 2.5/10
Eoin Morgan, after playing three decent knocks, failed against the Super Kings. Coming to bat at number five, he was expected to inject momentum into the innings. But he scored seven of 10 runs. He got out, trying to pull Sam Curran down the leg side. Dhoni took a safe catch with the gloves.
Andre Russell- 6/10
Andre Russell stayed quiet with the bat in hand. Dre-Russ perished for only a couple. He went for a hack on the leg-side off Thakur, but managed only an outside edge. With the ball, he picked up the important wicket of Sam Curran, who threatened with 17 off 11 with a four and an over-boundary.
Dinesh Karthik- 6/10
Dinesh Karthik batted as low as number seven, but it didn’t make much of an impact to his poor run of form with the bat. He hit a four, but could only score 12 off 11 in the death overs. Sam Curran pinned him. The veteran showed excellent captaincy though, making shrewd bowling changes.
Pat Cummins- 8.5/10
Pat Cummins started with a cameo of an unbeaten 17 off nine balls with a four and a six. With the ball in hand, he couldn’t get a wicket. But despite not being able to make a breakthrough, he was excellent as he bowled at an economy of 6.25 in his four overs with as many as 11 dot deliveries.
Kamlesh Nagarkoti- 7.5/10
Kamlesh Nagarkoti couldn’t open his account with the bat in hand, but made amends with the leather. He was only entrusted for three overs where he picked up the wicket of Rayudu, who had got his eyes in. Nagarkoti went for three fours in his spell and gave away 21 runs with six dots.
Shivam Mavi- 7/10
Shivam Mavi also perished for a duck in a bid to up the scoring rate. He had a tough time with the ball as well. In three overs, he leaked 32 runs at an economy rate of 10.66. But he got the most important CSK wicket in the form of Faf du Plessis, who could easily have won Super Kings the game.
Varun Chakravarthy- 8/10
Varun Chakravarthy did his job with precision as well. The off-break bowler bowled his full quota of four overs and gave away 28 runs at an economy of seven. He bowled seven dot balls and never allowed the CSK batters to get away. The tweaker also nipped out the prized scalp of MS Dhoni.
