IPL 2020: Match 27, MI vs DC – MI Predicted Playing XI

The Mumbai Indians (MI) have had a nice, little break in the tournament. After four days, they will be back on the field to take on the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the second game of the double-header on Sunday. With 4 wins in 6 games, MI might seem to be comfortably placed at this point in time. However, their opponents for this game are the only team who have performed better than them. The Capitals have been on a roll with 5 wins from 6 matches.

DC won three games in a row heading into this game just like the Mumbai Indians. If there is one team which can challenge MI at this juncture in the tournament, it has to be DC. The Mumbai-based franchise will look to put their best foot forward and possibly continue with their winning streak. Since they have got a well-settled team already, they might not tinker much and make any changes.

Here is the Predicted Playing XI for the Mumbai Indians (MI):

Openers (Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk))

Rohit Sharma has been the best batsman for MI thus far in this season. In the last game, he scored 35 off 23 balls but failed to convert that into a big knock. However, his team will have huge hopes on him with the bat. With his leadership, the 33-year-old has been spot on and has executed his plans brilliantly.

Quinton de Kock, though, is still a concern. He had just one good game in the season so far where he went on to score 67 runs after being dropped early on. He’s been hitting the ball well, has found the middle of the blade more often than not. However, he hasn’t managed to convert his starts into big scores consistently and MI would want him to do that more often.

Middle Order (Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya)

After blowing hot and cold initially in the tournament, Suryakumar Yadav came into his zone in the last game against the Rajasthan Royals (RR). He played an unbelievable knock and also hit some extravagant strokes. In the process, he also registered his highest IPL score which is 79 not out. He would be hopeful of continuing with the good form going forward in the season.

Ishan Kishan, on the other hand, got out while playing a reckless shot in the last match. He tried to slog the first ball that he faced and was unsuccessful. The youngster should put a price on his wicket and must be more careful with his shot selection. It might seem as if Hardik Pandya isn’t making big contributions but he’s been fulfilling his role really well. His strike rates in the tournament are quite good and he has been providing the final impetus to his team with his batting although he hasn’t been bowling at all.

All Rounders (Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya)

Kieron Pollard didn’t have much to do with the bat in the last game as his team got a score in excess of 190 without having to utilise his services. But he’s been lethal with the willow and handy with the ball. Although he went for 24 runs in 2 overs against the Royals, he picked up one wicket. He is expected to bowl a couple of overs at least in this game as well.

Krunal Pandya has been a utility player for the team. The southpaw hasn’t been at his best in the tournament and failed to bring out consistent performances. But he continues to be an integral part of the side and is one of the best options that they have got.

Bowlers (James Pattinson, Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah)

MI and DC have got two of the best bowling line-ups in the tournament. The Mumbai bowlers have worked their way to excellence in the last six games and have helped their team register big victories. Their pace troika of Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult and James Pattinson are all amongst the leading wicket-takers in the tournament. They have accounted for 11, 10 and 9 wickets respectively from 6 games each.

Their performances helped the team a great deal to achieve whatever success they’ve had. Bumrah’s four-wicket haul in the last game should give him a lot of confidence. Rahul Chahar is not far behind either and has accounted for 7 wickets so far in the tournament.
