Kings XI Punjab continue to stay alive in the playoff race following a super over victory over the Mumbai Indians on Sunday night. The defending champions finished with 176/6 despite a top-order collapse. Skipper KL Rahul smashed a 51-ball 77 with ten boundaries to put KXIP on the top in the chase. But Jasprit Bumrah’s regular strikes guided the game into the super over where he conceded only five runs. Mohammed Shami also conceded just five runs in the super over pushing the requirement for yet another super over. Gayle and Mayank sealed two points for KXIP by chasing down 12 in only four balls.

New history in T20 cricket:

1 – The MI vs KXIP game became the first-ever match in Twenty20 history to witness two super overs. This is also only the 2nd instance of an IPL game which witnessed the super over ending in a Tie. The 2014 edition game between KKR and RR hosted by Abu Dhabi finished in the same way but RR won on boundary count.

5 – The Dubai Sports City Stadium became the first venue in Twenty20 cricket to record as many as five tied matches. Three such games took played in IPL 2020 only while other two Tied T20s at the venue were Pakistan-Australia T20I in 2012 and Karachi-Lahore game during 2018 PSL.

Mumbai remains winless in Dubai:

0/5 – Mumbai Indians have not won any of the five IPL matches they played at the Dubai Sports City Stadium. They lost all the three matches played at this venue during the 2014 edition while both their games in Dubai this season ended in super over defeats.

Not so great record in super overs for Rohit:

4 – Rohit Sharma, during MI vs KXIP, became the first captain in the IPL history to be part of four tied matches surpassing Virat Kohli who was involved in three tied games. Rohit also became the first captain to be on the losing side in two

Rahul’s hat-trick:

3 – KL Rahul became the first Indian to amass 500+ runs in three consecutive seasons in the Indian Premier League. Overall, he is only the 3rd player after David Warner (5) and Chris Gayle (3) to aggregate 500+ runs in three or more successive IPL editions.

A record duck for Maxwell:

10 – Glenn Maxwell became the first player to be dismissed for a duck on as many as ten occasions in the IPL. He moved ahead of Jacques Kallis (9) and AB de Villiers (9) with his duck in MI vs KXIP.

Bumrah stars with the ball yet again:

11 – Jasprit Bumrah has taken 3-wicket hauls on 11 occasions in the IPL; the joint 3rd most IPL 3-fers by any bowler for a franchise. Lasith Malinga tops the list with as many as 19 3-wicket hauls for Mumbai Indians while Sunil Narine has 12 such hauls for Kolkata Knight Riders. Amit Mishra also claimed 11 3-fers for the Delhi Daredevils/Capitals.

Another failure for Pooran in super over:

0 – Nicholas Pooran is yet to score a run in the T20 super overs across three attempts. He failed to score a run in the five balls he faced from Sunil Narine during a super over in 2014 CPL and was cleaned up by Kagiso Rabada on the first ball he faced in the super over during the 2nd game of this IPL.

Bumrah gets the better of Mayank:

0.67 – Mayank Agarwal now has a batting average of 0.67 in the IPL while facing Jasprit Bumrah. The KXIP opener scored only two runs across the 10 balls he faced from the MI pacer in the IPL and got dismissed three times.
