Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), after loads of defeats, have now won three matches on the trot in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team, captained by KL Rahul, on Tuesday, October 20, beat the Delhi Capitals (DC) by five wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
With the victory, Punjab have eight points and, from the blues, have become a contender for the playoffs. As far as the Capitals are concerned, they stay at the top of the points table despite the loss. For them, Shikhar Dhawan racked up his second century on the trot, but his knock went in vain.
The Capitals, after electing to bat first, scored 164 for five on the back of Dhawan’s 61-ball 108. They should be looking to get back to winning ways and cement their berth in the playoffs at the earliest.
Here are the KXIP Player Ratings for the KXIP vs DC match:
KL Rahul- 4/10
KL Rahul started his knock with a four and a six. But he couldn’t carry on and perished to Axar Patel. He tried to take the left-arm tweaker to the cleaners. He could only score 15 runs off 11 balls.
Mayank Agarwal- 1.5/10
Mayank Agarwal has had some terrific outings in the ongoing edition of the tournament. But this time around he failed. His knock came to an end after he was involved in a mix-up with Chris Gayle.
Chris Gayle- 8/10
Chris Gayle laid into fast bowler Tushar Deshpande and smashed him for quite a few fours and sixes. It was Ravi Ashwin, who castled him to end his stay. He scored 29 off 13 with three fours and two sixes.
Nicholas Pooran- 9.5/10
Nicholas Pooran played another impressive hand with the bat in hand. He batted in the middle order and scored 53 runs off 28 balls with six fours and three sixes. The left-hander was on top of his game.
Glenn Maxwell- 7.5/10
Glenn Maxwell looked in some sort of rhythm and the Punjab team would be relieved by that. The Victorian scored 32 runs off 24 balls with three fours. Kagiso Rabada pinned him in the 16th over.
Deepak Hooda- 5/10
Deepak Hooda wasn’t fluent in his knock of 15 runs off 22 balls at a strike-rate of 68.18. The right-hander hit one four towards the end of his innings but made sure that he stayed unbeaten.
James Neesham- 7/10
James Neesham made his return into the playing eleven and he was decent enough. He bowled only two overs and got the prized scalp of Prithvi Shaw. With the bat, he scored 10 unbeaten runs with a six.
Murugan Ashwin- 7/10
Murugan Ashwin wasn’t all that disappointing. In his four overs, the leg-spin bowler gave only 33 runs to go with five dot balls. The tweaker also accounted for the wicket of Shreyas Iyer, DC’s skipper.
Ravi Bishnoi- 6/10
Ravi Bishnoi didn’t quite have the greatest days with the ball in hand, though he didn’t leak runs at an alarming rate. In three overs, the young leggie gave away 24 runs and bowled 10 dot deliveries.
Mohammed Shami- 9.5/10
Mohammed Shami was arguably the standout bowler for the Kings XI without a doubt. In four overs, he gave 28 runs at an economy rate of seven. Moreover, he got the wickets of Marcus Stoinis and Shimron Hetmyer.
Arshdeep Singh- 3/10
Arshdeep Singh had a rough day with the ball. Neither could he pick up a wicket, nor could he put a lid on the run-scoring. In three overs, the left-arm pacer gave away 30 runs with four dot deliveries.
