The fourth match of the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) turned out to be an exciting one. In Sharjah, both teams had their moments of joy, but in the end, it was Steve Smith and Co, who came out trumps by 16 runs.

The Super Kings, led by MS Dhoni, got out of jail against Mumbai Indians (MI), but couldn’t replicate the same this time. To start with, Sanju Samson and Steve Smith’s brilliance tormented CSK. In the end, when the wheels started to come off the Royals’ innings, Jofra Archer injected momentum into the innings.

During the run-chase, CSK found the boundaries, but also lost wickets at regular intervals. Faf du Plessis notched 72 runs off 37 balls with one four and seven sixes, but his valiant efforts went in vain.

Here are the RR Player Ratings for the match: –

Yashasvi Jaiswal- 2/10

Yashasvi Jaiswal didn’t have a happy debut. The left-hander started with a four, but Deepak Chahar cut short his stay in the middle. In the third over, he tried to pull the pacer away, but only managed to get a top-edge. Chahar, himself, took the catch. The youngster perished for a run-a-ball six.

Steve Smith- 9/10

Steve Smith opened the batting for the Royals and did his job with precision. He led from the front and scored 69 runs off 47 balls with the help of four fours and as many sixes. Smith shared a 121-run stand for the second wicket with Sanju Samson and got out to Tom Curran in the 19th over.

Sanju Samson- 9.5/10

Sanju Samson was on top of his game and muscled his way to a 19-ball 50, stamping his authority. He was severe on Piyush Chawla and hit sixes for run off his bowling. Samson went on to score 74 off 32 with one four and as many as nine sixes. He also effected three stumpings and took one catch.

David Miller- N/A

Robin Uthappa- 1/10

Robin Uthappa’s debut game for the Royals wasn’t a memorable one by any means. He came to bat at number five and he couldn’t get going. He tried to deposit Chawla downtown, but holed out to Faf du Plessis. Robin, having loads of experience on his shoulders, would be looking to make amends.

Rahul Tewatia- 8.5/10

Rahul Tewatia scored 10 off eight balls with one four, but it’s his performance with the ball that stood out. He was a tad expensive in his final over. However, he turned the screws in the middle overs, picking up the crucial wickets of Shane Watson, Sam Curran and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Riyan Parag- 2.5/10

Riyan Parag didn’t have a great day with the bat in hand. He came to bat in the 17th over after Tom Curran got rid of Rahul Tewatia. The Young Turk smashed a four, but fell prey to Curran soon after. He tried to run one down to third-man, but got an outside-edge only for Dhoni to take the catch.

Tom Curran- 4

Tom Curran was lacklustre with the ball, though he had one wicket to show for his efforts. In four overs, the England fast bowler gave away 54 runs. He leaked quite a few runs in his final over after Dhoni tonked him into the stands on quite a few instances. With the bat, he got 10 off nine balls.

Jofra Archer- 9.5

Jofra Archer turned with an all-round show, delivering with both bat and ball. To start with, he scored 27 off eight balls with four sixes. In the last over, due to his power-hitting, the Royals fetched 30 runs off Lungi Ngidi. With the ball, he got the crucial wicket of du Plessis and gave away 26 runs.

Shreyas Gopal- 6.5

Shreyas Gopal gave the Royals their first breakthrough, getting rid of Shane Watson, who put on 56 runs for the opening wicket with Murali Vijay. He rattled Watson’s woodwork to give his team the much-needed breakthrough. In his four overs, the leg-spinner gave away 38 runs in his four overs.

Jaydev Unadkat- 3

Jaydev Unadkat had an off-day with the leather in hand. He had lacklustre outings in 2018 and 2019, and he didn’t start off on a happy note. In four overs, he gave away 44 runs and couldn’t put a lid on the run-scoring. In his entire spell, the left-arm fast bowler could only bowl three dot deliveries.
