Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) slumped to a horrendous 49-run defeat in their opening match against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. However, Dinesh Karthik and Co rose like a phoenix from the ashes and defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven wickets at the same venue.

The Men in Gold and Purple registered first points in the T20 tournament. Moreover, since they won with 10 balls to spare, their net run rate also improved after taking a hit after the loss in the first match.

For the Sunrisers, led by David Warner, they tasted back-to-back defeats. Before their next game against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday, September 29, the Orange Army need to go back to the drawing board and block the loopholes in their ranks.

Here are the KKR Player Ratings for the KKR vs SRH match:

Shubman Gill- 9.5/10

Shubman Gill looked in stupendous form. He opened the batting and scored an unbeaten 70 off 62 balls with five fours and two sixes. He was involved in 92-run stand with Eoin Morgan and took the Knights to victory. He played his strokes, but also made sure that he didn’t throw his wicket away.

Sunil Narine- 3/10

Sunil Narine had an off-day with both bat and ball. He was the most expensive among the spinners, giving 31 runs in his four overs with only five dot balls. The tweaker couldn’t pick up a wicket either. With the bat, Narine got a two-ball duck after he miscued a pull off left-armer Khaleel Ahmed.

Nitish Rana- 8.5/10

Nitish Rana might only have only 26 runs, but he was the one, who injected momentum into the Knights’ innings after Narine’s early dismissal. The left-hander scored his runs off 13 balls at an impressive strike-rate of 200 with six fours. His knock was cut short by left-arm pacer T Natarajan.

Dinesh Karthik- 3/10

Dinesh Karthik, as batsman and keeper, stayed quiet. He couldn’t read a googly from Rashid Khan and perished for a duck. He took the DRS, but KKR ended up losing it. He, was however, pro-active as a skipper. He used as many as seven bowlers and didn’t allow the SRH batter to settle down.

Eoin Morgan- 8.5/10

Eoin Morgan had a torrid time against MI, but he made amends against SRH. He was jittery to start with and then got his eye in. He also reverse-swept Rashid Khan for a four through third-man. In the end, he stayed not out on 42 runs off 29 balls with the help of three fours and a couple of sixes.

Andre Russell- 7.5/10

Andre Russell didn’t complete his quota of four overs, but he did his job with precision. In the two overs he bowled, Dre-Russ gave away 16 runs with four dot ball. Most importantly, he pinned Manish Pandey, who was looking ominous, scoring 51 off 38 balls with three fours and two sixes.

Pat Cummins- 9/10

Pat Cummins was greeted with backlash after he gave 49 off three overs against MI. But the speedster made a stupendous comeback and was KKR’s most economical bowler on Saturday. The pacer gave away 19 runs in four overs at an economy of 4.75 and also castled Jonny Bairstow.

Shivam Mavi- 6/10

Shivam Mavi picked up two wickets of Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma against MI. However, he couldn’t make a breakthrough in the second game. The youngster got only two overs to bowl where he gave away 15 runs. He leaked a six and a four, but also churned out six dot deliveries.

Kuldeep Yadav- 6/10

Kuldeep Yadav got to bowl only two overs after a poor outing against the Mumbai-franchise. In the 12 balls he bowled, the left-arm spinner gave away 15 runs at an economy of 7.5. The chinaman was smashed for a six, but he was reasonable in the rest of his spell. He is yet to get a wicket in this IPL.

Kamlesh Nagarkoti- 5.5/10

Kamlesh Nagarkoti made his IPL debut for KKR after two seasons and he did a fair job. The youngster was entrusted for only two overs where he gave away 17 runs. He bowled with pace and venom for which he’s known for. Nagarkoti gave away one four and bowled a wide to go with two dot balls.

Varun Chakravarthy- 8.5/10

Varun Chakravarthy made his IPL debut last year, but he didn’t get to play more than one match. Having made his debut for KKR this time, he didn’t flatter to deceive. In his four overs, he gave away 25 runs. Most importantly, the mystery spinner got rid of David Warner, who got 36 off 30 balls.
