Chennai Super Kings (CSK) can breathe a sigh of relief as all-rounder Moeen Ali has arrived in India and joined the team’s camp on Thursday (March 24). The southpaw’s arrival was delayed due to visa issues and owing to the same, he’s likely to miss his side’s opening fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.
Moeen has to complete the mandatory quarantine period to join his teammates in the camp. CSK will meet KKR in the season opener on March 26 and the former side will miss Ali’s services. It must be noted that the all-rounder was instrumental in Chennai’s title triumph last season. Alongside playing fiery cameos, the off-spinner was regular contributing with economical spells and vital breakthroughs.

Owing to the same, the 34-year-old was one of CSK’s mandatory retentions alongside Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Hence, the four-time champions would want the England international to replicate his heroics this season as well. Meanwhile, CSK confirmed Moeen’s arrival through a post on Twitter. “Mo Bhai is IN! #WhistlePodu #Yellove,” read the caption.

Speaking of how the all-rounder fared last season, he has scored 357 runs across 15 games at an average of 25.50, including one half-century. He also picked up six wickets in the competition. As Suresh Raina is no more a part of the CSK set-up, Ali is most likely to get the number-three spot.
Meanwhile, CSK will see a change in full-time captain for the first time since the inception of IPL in 2008. Ravindra Jadeja has taken over the reins from MS Dhoni and the same was confirmed by CSK on the eve of the competition. The latter, however, will continue to serve the team as a wicketkeeper-batter.
Notably, Jadeja has been in top-notch form lately and is well versed with the culture of CSK, having been associated with the side since the 2012 season. However, his leadership skills are still untested and it remains to be seen how he fares in the new role.
