Rajasthan Royals were the winners of the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) back in 2008. But ever since then, the team has strained and hasn’t been all that consistent. However, ahead of the upcoming edition, scheduled to get underway on September 19 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), they have roped in a few big players, including South Africa’s David Miller.
The southpaw has quite a significant amount of experience in the cash-rich T20 league and his credentials can’t be undermined by any stretch of the imagination. He made his IPL debut back in 2012, representing the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). In 79 games for the franchise, he managed to rack up 1,850 runs at an average of 34.25, including an unbeaten century.
The left-hander is currently a part of the Royals’ training camp at the ICC Academy in Dubai after the team’s quarantine period after reaching the UAE. The Royals’ are without their captain Steve Smith, who is currently taking part in the three-match T20I series against England. The series ends on Tuesday, September 8 with the final encounter at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
In the meantime, Miller has also started to show his brute force. During a net session, he almost hit fast bowler Ankit Rajpoot. The Proteas batter likes to pack a punch in his strokes and he smashed one fiercely back at the young speedster.
To his luck, Rajpoot took an evasive action and evaded a major accident. The ball came flying off Miller’s bat, showing his brute force. In the auction, the Royals bought Miller at his base price of INR 75 lakhs.

The schedule for the upcoming IPL was announced on Sunday, September 6 amid the chaos surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. The Royals will be playing their first match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Tuesday, September 22 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Apart from Miller, the Royals have a power-packed batting unit. They have Jos Buttler, who’s in the form of his life, scoring runs at ease. The team also has the likes of Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes, who both are match-winners on their day.
