Kings XI Punjab are one of the teams that found very little success in the cash-rich league. In the last couple of seasons, Kings had got off to a great start in past seasons but rarely made it to playoffs. And now there are speculations that their skipper Ravichandran Ashwin can look for other options over KXIP in the upcoming season.
Indian spinner was bought by the franchise after paying a hefty amount of INR 7.6 crores back in 2018 and was expected that he might lead their team to its maiden IPL trophy but it turned out to be a major upset for KXIP owners. In the past couple of months, there were reports that the management might look to trade off their skipper to Delhi, but it looks like Ashwin has already made up his mind to represent any other team in IPL 2020.
Ravichandran Ashwin might opt for a new franchise in IPL 2020
On social media platform, Indian veteran cricketer had earlier mentioned the name of Kings XI Punjab in his bio as he was a part of the franchise but now it is not the case. In the latest update, Ravi Ashwin has removed the name of the franchise from his bio which is a strong signal that he might take a transfer or the management had already taken a decision over the future of the Chennai-born spinner as the upcoming auction is scheduled to take place on 19th December 2019 for IPL 2020.
Here is Ravi Ashwin’s Twitter bio (Before & Now):
The 33-year-old spinner has achieved several accolades and milestones in his cricket career, but his skills as a skipper have always been under the scanner due to his mindset of doing a lot more experiments with the team’s playing combination without giving appropriate time to his players to settle down had always been a major problem with him.
Under his captaincy in IPL 2019, his side signed off their tournament at 6th position, and the franchise can look for an overhaul in the upcoming set of the auction in order to replace quite a few players. Ashwin is currently a part of Team India in the longest format and is playing the 2nd Test of a three-match series against South Africa.
