IPL 2020: RCB holds its virtual team meeting of 34 members; shares a video
Mike Hesson, Virat Kohli and head coach Simon Katich were among the 34 members who attended the meeting.
The Coronavirus pandemic has led to the sports being played behind closed doors. Cricket is not an exception to it either with England taking the first step to create a bio-bubble for the players and has successfully played out its summer so far. The Indian Premier League (IPL) has followed suit as well and is set to be played from September 19 in the UAE with no spectators in the stadium.
The teams have reached the UAE now and the players are in quarantine for seven days. They will be tested thrice before being allowed into the bio-bubble. All the franchises tested their staff and players even before flying to Dubai as well and only after their results were negative, they were allowed to board the flight.
While in quarantine, even the players aren’t allowed to meet each other. However, to interact with the team, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) came up with a modern solution organising a virtual meeting. As many as 34 members joined the meeting and the experience turned out to be very unique and different.
Mike Hesson and Virat Kohli welcome the team
RCB’s Director of Cricket Operations Mike Hesson welcomed the whole team and cleared that the whole purpose of the meeting was to get used to it. Virat Kohli also agreed to Hesson while stating that they should get used to such team meetings now during the IPL. Modern problems require modern solutions and RCB has found it. It shouldn’t come as a surprise if other teams also follow suit now to keep in touch with the players during the quarantine.
RCB coach Simon Katich was also present in the meeting and cited that the upcoming three weeks after the quarantine period will be crucial for the team in terms of bonding. Kohli, meanwhile, warned his players to not let the team down during the tournament by breaching the bio-bubble. Mike Hesson also cleared that it will be contractual breach with the franchise if any player breaks the protocols.
He also cleared that the players will have to sign a document, from BCCI, with the repercussions of breaking the bio-bubble mentioned in it.
