The 45th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) locking horns against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). This is a crucial game for both the teams to stay alive in the competition and the KL Rahul-led side were dealt with yet another blow ahead of the match as Mayank Agarwal didn’t make it to the playing XI.
Mandeep Singh replaced the prolific opener and this left the fans surprised as Agarwal was in terrific form. The reason for his absence in this crucial game is the injury he sustained in the previous game against the Delhi Capitals (DC). It had happened during the 6th over of the KXIP’s innings when Mayank Agarwal and Nicholas Pooran were batting together.
Pooran pushed the fifth delivery of the over to the covers and took off for a single. But soon her realised that the run would be risky and stopped in the middle. Looking at him, even Agarwal stopped in the middle of the pitch before eventually deciding to go for the run. But it was too late by then as the Ravi Ashwin, the bowler, had thrown the ball to Rishabh Pant and Agarwal was caught short of the crease.
While the Capitals were busy celebrating the wicket, Mayank Agarwal hobbled off the field distraught and angry over his partner. As he tried to slide his willow to get inside the crease, it got stuck in the ground and Mayank Agarwal tumbled only to sustain a possible hamstring injury.
Worry for team India ahead of Australia tour?
Team India are scheduled to travel to Australia soon after the IPL final on November 10. But their Test regulars are getting injured leaving the BCCI medical team worried. Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are already doubtful for the tour while Rohit Sharma missed the previous game of Mumbai Indians (MI) due to a hamstring injury.
Now the latest injury to Mayank Agarwal must have left the selectors concerned and will be hoping that it is not so serious.
