IPL 2020: Rohit Sharma's wonderful gesture for Rahul Chahar after the youngster had a rough day against DC
Chahar conceded 35 runs in the two overs he bowled.
Mumbai Indians (MI)’ bowling attack has mostly been about Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult. The fast bowling duo has a combined tally of 49 wickets and has wreaked havoc. In fact, Bumrah, on Thursday, November 5, against the Delhi Capitals (DC), became the Purple Cap holder with 27 wickets, toppling Kagiso Rabada. However, the MI spinner, Rahul Chahar, has been no less.
The tweaker may not have a whole of wickets, but he has played well enough to feature in all of Mumbai’s 15 matches thus far. The leg-spinner has 15 wickets to show for his efforts at an economy rate of 8.16. But against Shreyas Iyer’s DC, he had an indifferent day. In the two overs he bowled, Chahar was taken for as many as 35 overs and he wasn’t entrusted to complete his quota.
Rahul Chahar having a tough outing
Marcus Stoinis took him to the cleaners with some lusty blows. Chahar came to bowl in the ninth over and the Capitals’ batsman hit him for 19 runs, including two sixes and a four. Chahar returned for his second over and leaked 16 runs. In the last over of DC’s run-chase, he also made a meal of a catch, eventually taking it in four attempts. It was the only moment of joy for the youngster.
It goes without saying that Chahar’s confidence wouldn’t have skyrocketed. In the meantime, Rohit Sharma, the MI captain, had a heartwarming gesture for Chahar. After MI’s 57-run victory at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the 33-year-old asked the spinner to lead the team through to the dressing room. In the video, Sharma can be seen motivating Chahar, giving a pat on his back.

Rohit and Co, after topping the points table, have made their way through to the final. Bumrah became the Player of the Match as he finished with a spell of 4-1-14-4 to go with 17 dot balls. He got rid of Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Stoinis and Daniel Sams.
He also became the highest wicket-taker for an Indian bowler in a single edition of the IPL, surpassing Bhuvneshwar Kumar. As far as the Capitals are concerned, they would now be playing the Qualifier 2 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
