Back in 2018, the Delhi Daredevils, now Capitals, roped in Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane at his base price of INR 20 lakhs. However, ever since then the tweaker has had to warm the benches for most part. Into his third season, he has only played nine matches, picking up 13 wickets at a reasonable economy rate of 8.34. This year, the 20-year-old is yet to play a single match.
He came into the tournament on the back of some incredible performances for the Jamaica Tallawahs in the 2020 Caribbean Premier League (IPL). Though the Tallawahs couldn’t win the title, Sandeep bamboozled the batters with his guile and trajectory. The youngster had Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who’s currently playing for the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), for company.
Sandeep Lamichhane not quite happy
As far as the IPL goes, the Capitals haven’t had the requirement of drafting him into the playing eleven just yet. Shreyas Iyer and Co have used Amit Mishra, Axar Patel and Ravi Ashwin in the spin-department.
In the meantime, Sandeep dropped a cryptic tweet, maybe showing disappointment after not being able to break into the Capitals’ playing eleven. He took to Twitter and wrote, “You don’t fix something that is not broken,”
Here’s the tweet:
You don’t fix something that is not broken.👊

The Capitals are currently placed on top of the points table with five victories from their six outings. In their last game, they beat the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 46 runs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Barring their 15-run loss at the hands of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the team have looked clinical. Kagiso Rabada is the Purple Cap holder with as many as 15 wickets to show for his efforts.
Ravi Ashwin became the Player of the Match in Sharjah on a track, which is deemed to be a bowler’s graveyard. That the Capitals have a net run rate of +1.267 is also a massive positive for them going forward.
Iyer’s men are next set to lock horns with Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, October 11 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. If they manage a victory then they will take a massive step in their quest to make the playoffs.
