IPL 2020: Shane Warne names his 4 teams to qualify for Playoffs this season
Warne also heaped praise on Royals' star Sanju Samson, who has been in sublime touch.
After many delays, the much-awaited T20 extravaganza finally rolled out on September 19th in the UAE. The tournament, as expected, has served fans with multiple thrillers until now, which includes two matches in which the fate was decided by Super Over drama.
Rajasthan Royals, led by Steve Smith, has so far emerged as one of the favourites to clinch the title. With in-form batsmen such as Sanju Samson, Rahul Tewatia and skipper Smith, Royals are looking like one of the teams to qualify for this year’s Playoffs.
The Rajasthan side is the only team that has remained unbeaten in this season so far. Starting off their campaign with a brilliant win over Chennai Super Kings, Royals, in their next game, went on to register the highest-ever run-chase in the tournament’s history while facing Kings XI Punjab.
Shane Warne, former Australian leg-spinner and the current mentor of Royals, has picked his four teams as his Top-4 contenders to qualify for this year’s Playoffs. The legendary leg-spinner picked defending champions Mumbai Indians, three-time winner Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals as the four sides likely to pave their way into the IPL 2020 Playoffs.
I hope Sanju Samson has a consistent tournament: Shane Warne
“Four teams, Rajasthan Royals. I think it’s hard to go past Chennai Super Kings, they will always be there or thereabouts. I think Mumbai Indians will be there too, they have got a very well-balanced squad and the fourth spot, I will probably have to lean towards Delhi Capitals. DC has got a lot of firepower so I think they’ll be the fourth team,” said Warne as quoted by Hindustan Times.
Warne further also heaped praise on Royals’ star Sanju Samson, who has been in sublime touch. The wicketkeeper-batsman has so far taken the IPL by storm by hitting 16 sixes in just two matches.
“I hope Sanju has a consistent tournament this year. If he has a consistent tournament this year, I think you will see him representing India in all forms of the game.
He’s (Samson) such a talented player. I have seen a lot of talented cricketers in my time but watching Samson bat in the nets, being around him, speaking to him over the years and now watching him evolve, I mean he is something else,” Warne further said.
