The big action in form of the Indian Premier League is all set to get underway from September 19, and there is a lot of analysis going over different players in the playing XI of respective teams. Amid this, Simon Katich, head coach of RCB, has explained reasons as to why they invested a handsome amount on Aaron Finch. Finch has been roped by Bangalore during the IPL auction in December for whopping Rs 4.4 crore.
Katich said that franchise was searching for a player who has great exposure at international levels, and they have got the right fit in the form of this Australian great. Finch, who has 1989 runs to his credit in 61 T20Is played, stands at 3rd position in the ICC rankings for T20I batsmen. Besides Finch, two more overseas players are looking in great capacity, and they are Dale Steyn and AB de Villiers.
In a video interaction, Katich said, “We were looking for guys at the top of their game in international cricket. Finch was high on that list. As a player and captain, he has done well for Australia. He is a good player of spin and brings leadership in the group.”
RCB have fixed their bowling department well
RCB’s Director of Cricket Mike Hesson emphasized on team’s bowling department and said they have been trying to strengthen this area, and it seems perfect now for the upcoming season. Yuzvendra Chahal pointed out last month that more than 70% of the team’s defeat has come up on account of weak bowling strength in death overs.
Hesson stated in the video interaction- “We were very clear about our death bowling and wanted to make sure we got it covered. We went into the auction wanting to fix that.”
“We have got Udana, Morris, Richardson, Steyn. Navdeep Saini has done the job nicely, and our spinners too will play a big part. We got Chahal, who is an exceptional bowler and a nice mix of spinners (Shahbaz Nadeem, Pawan Negi, Moeen Ali). We think we are not so much reliant on our batting and have a balanced unit.”
