The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have officially announced their retained and released players list. Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh’s Test and T20I skipper, has been released after he was banned by the ICC for not reporting corrupt approaches. The deadline to submit the final list was set for 5 PM on Friday by the IPL authorities and all the teams have finalised their decision ahead of the auction which is slated to take place on December 19 in Kolkata.
The SRH released a total of five players including Shakib and they are, Yusuf Pathan, Martin Guptill, Deepak Hooda and Ricky Bhui. Yusuf’s release is a little bit surprising as the Baroda all-rounder had a brilliant season with them in 2018. But he couldn’t replicate the similar form in the previous season. Though one would’ve hoped for the SRH to stick with him given the experience he brings to the table.
Yusuf could muster only 40 runs in 8 innings and remained unbeaten on five occasions facing only 45 balls during his stay in the middle. Hooda also endured a disappointing season despite getting a chance to play 11 matches. He averaged only 10.66 in seven innings and struggled to finish games for his team.
Guptill played only three matches for SRH
Martin Guptill was signed by the SRH to effectively replace Jonny Bairstow late in the season. The New Zealand opener didn’t leave up to his reputation in the three matches he played. He could score only 81 runs at a strike-rate of 152.83. Rather, the main reason to release him could be Bairstow’s availability for the whole season next year. Ricky Bhui got only one match to prove his mettle in the previous season and he scored only 7 runs.

The SRH haven’t released any of their bowlers who defended low totals during the last season and will be hoping to sign a renowned finisher in the auction. They are left with a total of 18 players in their squad now. David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Kane Williamson and Billy Stanlake are the six foreigners retained by the franchise.
