IPL 2020: Team-wise one bowler who can opt for mid-season transfer

The Indian Premier League is an excellent platform for budding cricketers and veterans to showcase their skills in the shortest format of the game. The teams have a conducive environment where uncapped players can learn how to ply their trades from some of the best international players in the world. This season, the BCCI has adopted a “football-style” mid-season transfer process. Following are the rules– 1. The player should not have played more than two matches when the transfer is taking place. 2. The transfer will only be applicable at the half-way mark in the league stage when the franchises have played 7 games each. All those players who haven’t played more than two games are eligible for transfers. This can be an excellent opportunity for these talented players to get a chance to prove themselves. At the same time, it could also solve the team’s problems in specific domains. Following bowlers from each team could be up for grabs during the trading window. Here’s the list: 1. Dhawal Kulkarni (Mumbai Indians) Dhawal Kulkarni. (Photo Source: MANAN VATSYAYANA/AFP/GettyImages) Local lad Dhawal Kulkarni has been around in the Indian Premier League since its inception. He represented Mumbai Indians from 2008-13, Rajasthan Royals from 2014-15, the now-defunct Gujarat Lions from 2016-2017, and then again Rajasthan for the next 2 years before he was bought back by Mumbai at a base price of 75 lakh in this year’s auction. A veteran in the IPL, he has played 90 matches in his career. He has not yet played a single match for Mumbai this season. With the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, James Pattinson, Trent Boult- all of which are in top-notch form- it is highly unlikely that he will get a go this season. His form in the past three years hasn’t been exceptional as well, with just 13 wickets in 24 games at an economy rate of 9.45. Teams that require a decent Indian pacer can look for getting him in the mid-season transfer window. He could prove to be the ideal replacement of the injured Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. SRH could seriously consider getting him, as neither of Sid Kaul and Sandeep Sharma have performed to their potential. Rajasthan also lacks a good Indian pacer, with Unadkat failing to perform for his side. 2. Billy Stanlake (Sunrisers Hyderabad) Billy Stanlake. (Photo Source: Twitter) Australian pacer Billy Stanlake has played 6 IPL matches in his career. He has played 2 games for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2017, and 4 games for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018. He did not participate in the 2019 edition, and he has not played a single game for SRH this season. SRH do not have the space to accommodate him in the Playing XI. Captain Warner, Rashid Khan, Kane Williamson, and Jonny Bairstow are the foreign core of the Hyderabad lineup. Even after Bhuvi’s injury, it is highly unlikely that he will get a game this season with the men in orange. Teams that need a good foreign pacer should definitely consider going for him during the trading window. He could prove to be a direct replacement of Chris Jordan in Kings XI Punjab, who has looked off-colour in both the matches. Stanlake has an economy rate of 7.29 in the death overs for Australia, which he has represented in 19 matches. 3. Andrew Tye (Rajasthan Royals) Andrew Tye. (Photo: IANS) Winner of the 2018 Purple Cap, he was roped in by Rajasthan Royals for a price of 1 crore in the auctions. He made his debut for the Chennai Super Kings in 2017, where he played 6 matches and grabbed 12 wickets. In the subsequent season, he took 24 wickets for Kings XI Punjab. However, he only managed to pick 3 wickets in 6 games next season and was dropped from the Playing XI. Rajasthan have played Steve Smith, Jos Butler, Jofra Archer, and Tom Curran for the majority of the season as their 4 overseas cricketers. Tom Curran has had a decent start and has chipped in with both bat and ball. Plus, with the return of star-allrounder Ben Stokes, even Curran would have to make way. Tye does not look like someone who could break into this Playing XI. Tye, similar to Stanlake, could also be valuable for teams that require a quality overseas pacer. He might just go back to his ex-franchise Kings XI Punjab, as Chris Jordan seems to be miserably out of form. He has picked up 21 of his 39 career wickets in the death overs, at an economy rate of just 8.88. 4. Pawan Negi (Royal Challengers Bangalore) Pawan Negi. (Photo Source: BCCI) Pawan Negi is a left-handed spin-bowling all-rounder from Delhi. He has been around in the league since 2012 and has represented Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore. He has taken 34 wickets and scored 365 runs in 50 matches across 8 years. He is also an excellent fielder and RCB used RTM for him in the 2018 mega auction. Royal Challengers Bangalore have not included him in their Playing XI for a single match. With Washington Sundar doing well, and Shahbaz Ahmed waiting in the reserves, it is highly unlikely that he will get a game for the Challengers. However, he could prove to be a crucial player in the latter half of the tournament, when the pitches are expected to be spin-friendly. Teams like KKR and MI should try to look for a player like him. He can prove to be an effective back-up for Krunal Pandya, who hasn’t been in the best of form. Kuldeep Yadav’s lack of form makes Negi a good replacement for him as well. 5. Prasidh Krishna (Kolkata Knight Riders) Prasidh Krishna. (Photo: IANS) Young Karnataka pacer Prasidh Krishna made his IPL debut in 2018 for Kolkata Knight Riders. He had a good first season with them, picking up 10 wickets in 7 games. However, he could not back it up next year, taking just 4 wickets in 11 games. Krishna has not played a single match for Kolkata this year. With both Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi doing amazingly well with the ball, Krishna isn’t likely to get a game for them anytime soon. The former also add value with the bat, something which Prasidh does not have to offer. He would be suitable for teams looking for a reserve Indian pacer. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals could look to draft him in their squad, considering the lack of performance of Indian pacers in both the teams, with the exception of Shami and Natarajan respectively. 6. Mitchell Santner (Chennai Super Kings) Mitchell Santner. (Photo Source: Twitter) World No.6 bowler in T20 Internationals, the Kiwi was purchased by the men in yellow at the base price of 50 lakh. He represented Chennai Super Kings in 4 games last season. With 4 wickets at an economy rate of 6.7, and 32 runs in 4 innings at an average of 32, he did well in the limited opportunities given to him. MS Dhoni is not known to tinker around with the Playing XI that much. He didn’t get a chance in the starting XI in a single game till now. And knowing Dhoni and Fleming, the possibility of him remaining on the bench for the entire season if he stays in CSK cannot be ruled out. Teams like Delhi Capitals or Kolkata Knight Riders could use his services. The loss of Amit Mishra for Delhi is a huge blow, and a veteran spinner in the reserves could genuinely benefit the team. Hetmyer is not in form, so they could look at replacing him with Rahane, and an Indian pace option with Santner on spin-friendly tracks. 7. Darshan Nalkande (Kings XI Punjab) Darshan Nalkande. (Photo Source: Twitter) Vidarbha pacer Darshan Nalkande was bought by Kings XI Punjab in the auctions for the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League. He also made his First-class and List A debut for Vidarbha in the 2018-19 season. He was purchased for INR 30 lakhs in the auction. Nalkande did not get a chance to start for the Kings XI Punjab as of now. He has 19 wickets in 9 domestic T20s to his name at an economy rate of 7.76. He has also taken a five-wicket haul against Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy. Teams that are on the look-out for a reserve pacer in their wings could go for him. He can also bat a bit- he has a top score of 53* in List A cricket. Royal Challengers Bangalore could consider him as a reserve pacer in case Saini or Siraj are unfit or out of form. 8. Daniel Sams (Delhi Capitals) Daniel Sams. (Photo by Mark Brake – CA/Cricket Australia via Getty Images) Aussie pacer Sams came into the Delhi squad as a replacement of English opening batsman Jason Roy. He has not yet made his IPL debut. In the Big Bash League, he has played for Sydney Thunder. Sams has picked up 52 wickets in 37 T20s at an average of 18.36 and an economy rate of 8.13. He could have been accommodated in the role of a pace-bowling all-rounder lower down the order. But the success of Nortje means that the spot is not up for grabs anymore in the Delhi Capitals Playing XI. Teams which require a hit-deck pacer and a lower-order batsman who can strike a few blows if needed could go for him while the trading window is open.
