2. Tushar Deshpande (Delhi Capitals)
Tushar Deshpande is a budding cricketer from Mumbai. The 25-year-old bowler made the headlines when he decided to go for his club cricket match instead of accepting an invitation for an IPL trial. He was asked to come for a trial for Kings XI Punjab in October 2018 but the pacer decided to follow the unusual path as he went on to play for his club team.
In an interview last year with TOI, the cricketer said, “I’ve never gone for trials with an IPL team. Earlier too, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals called me for trials. I believe that if I’m giving my 100% in the matches that I’m playing in, why should I give trials? There’s nothing that I’ll gain by giving these trials. If I bowl well in the matches that I’m playing in, then someone will obviously pick me.”
The confidence of the young bowler brought him a contract in 2020. But the pacer might not get a chance to feature in any of the games. Delhi Capitals’ camp is filled with several experienced choices as Ishant Sharma, Harshal Patel, Mohit Sharma and Kagiso Rabada all are set to feature in the line-up. The speedster might utilize this opportunity to get help from highly qualified coaches.
