The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have struggled in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Their inexperienced middle-order has been exposed more often than not and the injuries to the players like Mitchell Marsh and Kane Williamson haven’t helped either. To take care of the problem, David Warner, the SRH skipper, himself batted at four in the game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

However, the fans and experts are left baffled over the fact that the management hasn’t used Mohammad Nabi at all barring from one match. The Afghanistan all-rounder is known to hit some lusty blows down the order and gives four economical overs more often than not.

But the restriction of four overseas players keeps him on the bench. The likes of Warner, Jonny Bairstow and Rashid Khan pick themselves and it has always been a toss-up between Kane Williamson and Nabi. But given the poor middle-order, SRH preferred the Kiwi skipper in the XI who did well too.

Why not Mohammad Nabi when Williamson is not playing?

However, Wiliamson got injured and couldn’t get fit in time for the game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Thursday and SRH again didn’t pick Mohammad Nabi in the line-up. Instead, they went with Jason Holder, the all-rounder, who also took the new ball. The move also left the commentators confused as Nabi is an experienced player in the shortest format and came off a good Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season as well.

Even at the start of the IPL, SRH preferred to pick Mitchell Marsh ahead of the Afghanistan veteran which was surprising for many. With a place in the playoff at stake, the management should’ve picked the off-spinning all-rounder as he would’ve done well on the slow pitches of UAE. In the only game he played this season, Mohammad Nabi bowled four overs and gave away only 23 runs without picking up a wicket.

He was dropped in the next game itself as Williamson was fit and available and has warmed the bench ever since. But the fans were livid to not see him play against the Royals on Thursday.
