The IPL 2021 which is now due in less than three weeks is anticipated to be a mega event in terms of the highest quality of T20 cricket being played. The tournament is already considered as a key event for the international players to get very well prepared for the 2021 World T20 and that’s the reason why almost every cricketing board this time is very adamant in allowing their players to play the full season. Also, almost every IPL team after the February Auction is looking very well stacked and it will be interesting to find out how each team goes with their business.
Although, on paper before the mega-event almost every team does look to be a potential candidate for the top four, in reality, as we all know just like every season there are few teams that genuinely start as top favourites. Because of their past robust record, one can easily bank on them even for the top two spots or eventually seeing them lifting the glory.
With the 14th edition now also being an arrangement where there’s hardly any home advantage left, the tournament also then apparently becomes much more eventful where the franchises will then have to fetch out some strenuous wins. Hence, let’s take a look at-
3 Teams that are favourites to win the title in IPL 2021
1. Mumbai Indians
It will hardly be a surprise if this team picks up their IPL campaign from where they had left in IPL 2020. The team in the previous edition looked almost like an invincible side and now with its further procured bolstering during the recent auction, the franchise might actually make themselves win a hat-trick of IPL titles. Also, most of their front-line players like Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Ishan Kishan do look in a blistering form, hence, one can expect the blue army to soar itself early.
Carrying the reputation of being one of the most balanced franchises, the team looked bleak in the spin department last time. However, with the addition of the veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, even that inferiority looks to be resolved. In addition to that, the management has also bagged Jimmy Neesham who can be a handy cover for Kieron Pollard. Another good news for skipper Rohit Sharma is that the junior Pandya has been now regularly bowling thus giving his skipper the luxury of six bowling options.
The two overseas pacer strategy which has been the hallmark of their bowling attack has also made this franchise one of the best teams when it comes to defending a certain total. Nathan Coulter-Nile, who was again bagged at a productive price tag and will certainly be MI’s second overseas seamer, looked in a rational form while playing in the BBL. Overall, one can sense that it is a kind of a team whose first choice playing XI can be a match-winning combination on the majority of Indian surfaces.
All in all, with former England skipper already calling this team as one of the all-time giants since the advent of T20 cricket, in general once again the MI camp is admirably well-equipped to play on different IPL surfaces. A team that almost has every possible gear available in their batting line-up to combat any kind of bowling along with some sturdy names in their bowling attack, one can say that there’s hardly some inferiority that can stop them from fetching their sixth IPL title.
