Devon Conway, the rising star of New Zealand is in the form of his life. Playing his debut test match & scoring a test double-hundred against England in Lords is no cakewalk. He followed that by a knock of 80 runs off 143 balls in the 2nd match in Edgbaston. He played a crucial part in New Zealand’s 1-0 victory over England & was also awarded the player of the series as well.

His T20I career is also on a high as he has played in 14 matches, scoring 473 runs at an average of 59.12 & a scintillating strike rate of 151.12. He has four fifties in his kitty already with the highest score of 99* against Australia in Christchurch. He also is the 1st NZ batsman to score 5 consecutive fifties in T20 cricket. Prior to this innings, the left-handed batsman’s previous four T20 scores were – 93*, 91*, 69, 50 in the Super Smash.

The combination of average and strike rate is deadly & any team in the world would benefit from it. The dashing batsman also looks comfortable with the new ball & spin in the middle overs which is a perfect recipe for success at the international level. Hence, let’s take a look at-

With the possible absence of their captain Eoin Morgan, Conway could be a great pick for them. He can provide the necessary strength & stability at the number 4 position which was secured by Morgan. This would help the likes of Dinesh Karthik & Andre Russell to unleash themselves during the death overs.

He can even open the batting with Shubman Gill which may take the pressure away from Gill of controlling the innings & help him play his natural attacking way. Nitish Rana & Rahul Tripathi could go one position down the order each for the balance of the team. This will cater to their right-left opening combination which they want as this is one of the main reasons why Nitish Rana has been opening the batting instead of Rahul Tripathi.

Even though his fellow New Zealand teammate & wicket-keeper Tim Seifert already plays for KKR, the left-hander will provide both options of opening & playing in the middle order complemented by his current form, is confirmed slot in this KKR lineup.
