IPL 2021: Ashish Nehra reveals the players CSK should pick in the auction
Kedar Jadhav, who played for CSK in 2018, 2019, and 2020 editions, was released ahead of this year's auction.
Ahead of the Indian Premier League 2021, Chennai Super Kings released only five players. After a season where they failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time, it was expected that they would release a few more players surely. However, the ones who were released were: Kedar Jadhav, Harbhajan Singh, Monu Kumar, Piyush Chawla, and Murali Vijay.
Ahead of the mini-auction on Thursday, former Indian fast bowler Ashish Nehra has opined that Kedar Jadhav could be the only player who CSK might look to buy back when they sit on the auction table on February 18 in Chennai. Kedar Jadhav was initially bought by CSK in the IPL 2018 auction.
According to Nehra, CSK might try to get Jadhav back at a cheaper price than they had earlier. He was bought by the franchise for INR 7.8 crores. Since then, he hasn’t really performed well for the franchise. Jadhav has also been dropped from the India ODI team and it doesn’t seem he would make a comeback anytime soon.
Shakib Al Hasan and Moeen Ali are the best options I see for CSK: Ashish Nehra
“It is difficult but I see Kedar Jadhav as the only player they could go for. If they can get him at a lesser price as I think he was around 8 crore or so. Those things are very important. Other than that, I don’t think they will go for any of the other players they have left,” the former CSK player said during a show on Star Sports.
Nehra further went on to point out that CSK would be interested in buying Moeen Ali or Shakib Al Hasan as both of them are good all-rounders. MS Dhoni has always preferred having spin-bowling options so it won’t be really surprising if either of these two players is picked by the franchise during the auction.
“Shakib Al Hasan and Moeen Ali are the best options I see for this team. MS Dhoni likes those types of players as both of them bowl and bat. Whether they play their matches in Chennai or in the UAE, wherever it is, both these players have experience of the IPL,” Nehra added.
