Cheteshwar Pujara is one classical Test batsman and over the years, he has shown how important he is to the Indian Test team. But, in the IPL 2021 auction, many people were surprised to see that the Saurashtra player was picked up by the Chennai Super Kings. However, there are chances that captain MS Dhoni has plans to use his experience and develop his T20 game.
After he was picked up by CSK for the base price of INR 50 Lakhs, Chennai Super Kings uploaded a video of Pujara on their official Twitter handle. In the video, we got a glimpse of him and his daughter, while Pujara talked about the chance of playing in the IPL. His last appearance in an IPL season was back in 2014 when he played for Kings XI Punjab (now, Punjab Kings).
In the video, Pujara said that he is looking forward to the opportunity of playing under MS Dhoni once again. He recalled that Dhoni was the captain of the Test team when he made his debut. Pujara made his debut in Tests in 2010 and it was Dhoni’s tactics to bat him at no.3 once Rahul Dravid had retired from Test cricket. While talking, his daughter also said, “unga thala superuu”, which is in Tamil, and roughly translates to “your boss is superb.” As we know, Dhoni is affectionately called ‘thala’ which means ‘leader or boss’ in Tamil.
I have fond memories of playing under Mahi Bhai: Cheteshwar Pujara
“It’s great to be back in the IPL, really looking forward to playing in the yellow jersey. I will be playing Dhoni Bhai again, he was the captain of the Test team when I made my debut and I have fond memories of playing under Mahi Bhai, I am really looking forward to playing with him again,” Pujara said in the video shared by CSK.

Further, the right-handed batsman talked about the mental aspect of shifting gears while playing in the IPL. He said that he is hopeful that with good preparation, he can perform well in the tournament. Make no mistake, he has also got a century in T20 cricket and can seriously make an impact with his experience.
“Talking about the IPL, I think it is about changing the mindset, switching from the Test format to the IPL. You need to switch the gears as early as possible. I feel it’s the mental aspect which changes quickly. With good preparation, I am hopeful that I will do well in the IPL. Whistle podu and looking forward to the IPL,” Pujara added.
