Delhi Capitals are all set to resume their IPL 2021 campaign on Wednesday, September 22. The team will be locking horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad in Dubai. The Capitals have had a splendid run in the first half of the IPL and they will be keen to start from where they left.
The team secured victories in six matches from the eight that they played. They are comfortably placed at the second position of the points table with 12 points to their account. Though Shreyas Iyer returned fit for the UAE leg of the IPL, the Delhi Capitals franchise announced that Rishabh Pant will continue as the captain of the side for the IPL 2021. Thus, a lot of eyes will be on the young keeper-batter as he continues to lead the side.
Talking about the team, openers Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw have been instrumental for the side. With the return of Shreyas Iyer in the mix, the middle-order of the side will be further strengthened. Delhi also has an impactful bunch of all-rounders and the presence of Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Ishant Sharma, Avesh Khan, and Umesh Yadav amongst others makes a strong fast bowling unit. Further, with the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, and Amit Mishra, Delhi has a reliable spin attack too.
Here’s the Delhi Capitals Predicted XI for the DC vs SRH match:
Openers- Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw
Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw are set to open the innings for Delhi Capitals. The duo will be aiming to put up a good show for the side and provide the team with flying starts. Both of them have been crucial for Delhi in the Indian leg of the IPL owing to the strong starts they provided.
Dhawan has chipped in 380 runs in the tournament so far at an average of 54.28. He led the Indian side for the white ball series against Sri Lanka and looked in good touch in the series. He will be determined to carry the momentum further.
Shaw, on the other hand, smashed 308 runs at an average of 38.50 in the first half of the tournament. He too appeared to be in a good form and will look forward to making an impact on the side.
Middle-order- Shimron Hetmyer, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant
There is enough depth and belief in the middle-order of Delhi Capitals. Shimron Hetmyer featured for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League. From 11 matches, he scored 218 runs in the tournament. He possesses the ability to time the ball well and brings some attacking game to the fore.
Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, missed the Indian leg of the IPL as he underwent a shoulder injury. However, he has regrouped with the side and is all fit to take the charge of the field. Iyer can hold the fort of the side in crunch moments and deliver valuable knocks.
Rishabh Pant also has the flair to change the fortunes of the game. The keeper-batter scored 213 runs in the Indian leg of IPL and will be an important factor for the team.
All-rounders- Marcus Stoinis, Axar Patel
The Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has proven his prowess for the team in the past. He can play the quick cameo to help the team get into a better position. He comes in handy with the ball as well, providing crucial breakthroughs to the team.
Axar Patel, on the other hand, also can put up a good show with the willow and finish the proceedings for the side. The left-arm spinner scalped six wickets in the first half of the tournament.
Bowlers- Ravichandran Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Avesh Khan
Delhi Capitals have a lethal bowling attack that can deliver results for the team from any given point. Ravichandran Ashwin has a lot of experience under his belt and can dominate the batters owing to the variations he possesses in his bowling. Kagiso Rabada has been a pivotal aspect of Delhi. The South African pacer picked up eight wickets in the first half of the league.
One name that turned many heads and has emerged as a promising talent is that of Avesh Khan. He is currently the leading wicket-taker for the Delhi Capitals. The speedster has scalped 14 wickets in the tournament so far. Anrich Norjte has returned to the side for the remainder of the IPL. He will be one of the prime bowlers for the team.
