Yuzvendra Chahal didn’t get off to a great start in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), he looked a tad out of touch as he couldn’t get a single wicket against the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk. The leg-spinner was also going for a few runs.
However, he made an impressive comeback in the game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday, April 18. In four overs, Chahal picked up the important wickets of Nitish Rana and Dinesh Karthik. In his spell, he only gave away 34 runs at a pretty decent economy rate of 8.50.
In the meantime, Dhanashree Verma, Chahal’s wife, got emotional after his husband got his maiden wicket of the tournament. When the cameras focussed on her at the stands, she was seen as emotional and almost in tears. Chahal pinned Rana to open his account in IPL 2021.

Just stuck to my plan: Yuzvendra Chahal
In his first three overs, Chahal gave away on 14 runs, but in his final over, he leaked 20 runs. Andre Russell smashed him for one six and three fours, ruining his bowling figures a wee bit. Chahal talked about his plan of bowling to the Jamaican and talked about focussing on bowling dot balls.
“It’s an amazing feeling, when you are bowling well and not getting wickets, sometimes hurts. But getting that first wicket, I felt a bit emotional. I was trying to get him (Andre Russell) out, I wanted to bowl wider because the leg-side boundary was shorter, so after three balls, I changed my field,” Chahal was quoted as saying after the game.
“Their run-rate was over 10, I wanted to bowl more dot balls and just stuck to my plan. It will be a totally different wicket in Mumbai, there will be a slight turn but usually will be good for batting,” the tweaker added.
