Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be eyeing an improved outing in IPL 2021 after failing to do well in IPL 2020. Throughout the season, the two-time champions struggled for consistency and eventually finished at the fifth spot. They missed out on a playoff spot due to their poor net run-rate (-0.214) as they finished the season with 7 wins and as many losses.
The likes of Varun Chakravarthy and Eoin Morgan did well but the failure of big names like Sunil Narine, Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russell cost the team big. KKR’s season was also marred by several other incidents like Karthik stepping down as the captain after seven games and Narine getting suspended for a suspected bowling action.
Morgan was later named as the captain but he too could not make the team perform well consistently. But hopes will be high from the England star in the upcoming season. Narine also returned to action later but was from his best. He also failed to make an impact as an opener as KKR were compelled to try out several combinations at the top.
Ahead of the new season, KKR bought some experienced players like Shakib al Hasan, Karun Nair and Harbhajan Singh in the auction and would be hoping that their long wait for a third IPL title comes to an end. The likes of Shakib and Harbhajan know what it takes to win the IPL and their experience will come handy for the Kolkata-based outfit which has not won the tournament since 2014.
